Working As Mercenary - Mount Blade II: Bannerlord #4
Hello all, I've been away for a few days because of the election in Turkey and I've been very busy. Anyway, I'm back! I'll be more active here this week. Today we will continue our Mount Blade II: Bannerlord adventure in Hive. Unsheathe your swords and prepare for battle!
Short Summary of the Previous Episode
In the last chapter, we saved our family, Galter was executed, and our brother married a Kuzait lady. We organized another caravan and increased the amount of money we earned. I met a lady named Svana and she seems quite pretty. I helped the villagers, I started blacksmithing because I can't make enough money by trading. The first sword we forged was 4500 dinars and my goal is to forge a sword worth 30k dinars. At the end of the episode I got an important offer. The Southern Empire wants me to be a mercenary for them.
I accepted the offer because at some point the reality of this game is to fight. I need to improve myself a lot in this regard. I am still a beginner. The first battle I fought with the Southern Empire was to help Abalytos against Lantanor. We are at war with the Northern Empire. We already started the war with a great advantage and my first battle ended in a victory.
I saw one of our armies besieging a castle and I immediately joined the battle to help the army. Your archery skill is very important in sieges because killing the archers on the walls is the best thing you can do when besieging a city. That's how I helped. My archery skill has improved a lot so I can kill a person with a single arrow. Although the soldier I killed was a soldier with low level armor, but still. We won the battle and captured the castle of Melion. I won't be the owner of this castle because I am a mercenary, but at least I gain experience.
We won the next battle I joined and I was able to take my first prisoner. For now I am a mercenary, so taking lords or ladies prisoner will not give me anything. Freeing them will improve our relationship. The lords we keep on good terms will be more inclined to join us in the future when we establish the kingdom of Hive.
We met one of the enemy mercenaries. We had equal troops. I went into battle with him to improve myself and my army. It was the first battle I fought alone. I must admit it was hard, but I won the battle with an overwhelming superiority. I lost 20 soldiers, I hope I can find better ones. You can also see on the screen which of my attributes have improved and how much. Tactics, medicine, riding, archery are the skills I improved in this battle.
Afterwards our kingdom signed a peace treaty and before long we went to war, this time with the Kuzait Empire. The bad news is that I didn't know anything about it and I found out while I was trading on the map. So now I was going to fight against my own nation? But in the end I had sworn an oath of allegiance and I decided to stick to it. We conquered several Kuzaitian cities. Here is a screenshot of one of them. As you can see, the city walls are different. Cities from different regions have different fortifications. I think Bannerlord did a great job with this, as each kingdom has its own construction style.
We won a few battles and while traveling from one city to another, we were ambushed by the Kuzait army. They had 1300 soldiers and we had 900. I honestly thought we could win, but unfortunately things didn't work out the way I expected. We lost the battle because I think the soldiers of the other Lords in the army were not advanced enough. They defeated us by exactly the same amount of soldiers. And that would have been my first defeat in Calradia. The problem was not only that I was defeated, but because I lost this battle I was taken prisoner and held captive in dungeons for a while. That was enough to make me think.
It was a breaking point for me when the Southern Empire declared war on the Kingdom of Aserai when they had not yet defeated Kuzait. I ended my mercenary service. The game told me that my kingdom would frown upon it, but in the end nothing happened and I didn't fall out with anyone. Enough mercenary work.
After that, I wanted to resume my trading business, but of course I was captured and had nothing left. I lost all my goods. I started buying goods again, fortunately I had enough money for that. I traveled around the cities trying to find a useful companion. I can't have all the qualities myself. I met a surgeon, Nethor the surgeon, who told me his story and after studying his qualities I decided that he was the companion I was looking for and took him in.
I continued to attack large groups of bandits I saw while I was trading, because during my time as a mercenary, I realized that I was not a good enough commander to survive in battle and dive into the rival soldiers. If I want to build my kingdom in the future, I need to improve myself a lot.
When I was trading before, I was only buying and selling food and drinks, and then I realized that it is actually much easier to make a profit from other products. I can make much more profit from products like silk, salt, wool, jewelry in one go, I just need to sell the right amount in the right city.
I managed to get my trading skill up to 125 points, which was really important because one of the options here allows me to earn 1 nam per day from each profitable caravan. Now that all my caravans are profitable every day, I can grow my clan without fighting. All I have to do is wait enough.
While trading, I also managed to find the weapon I was looking for. The executioner's axe will allow me to chop my opponents on the battlefield! It's hard to use short weapons on horseback. This is exactly the weapon I wanted because it's long and has a very high damage. Yes, it seems expensive right now, but I'm sure it will be worth it. I guess we will be ready to forge more swords next chapter. Will be? We will learn it soon!
That was all for today. Thank you so much for reading, I hope you liked it. Let me know what you think about game and my post in comments. Have a great day and take care!

The mercenary work looks like a lot of fun. Gives you a different perspective, plus the different fort-styles in different areas is a great touch.
Sorry to hear you got captured but I’m sure it ended up being a nice learning opportunity. When you are captured do you lose all or a lot of your items or just the stuff you took with you to wherever you get captured?
A surgeon sounds like a perfect ally for a warrior, almost like having a white mage in a fantasy rpg to heal you.
Congrats on raising your trading skill. That’s awesome that now you can make money without even fighting. Perhaps you can become an all-powerful and unstoppable businessman in the game.
Can’t wait to hear how the executioner axe is in battle!
I can't say that mercenary work was fun because I lost, but yes, I improved myself well.
I'm very curious to see how far this adventure will go, will I be able to rule Calradia?
This game looks great, I laughed a little bit at the part where you were giving axes to a group of civilians xD, I can imagine the adrenaline for dead them all one by one.
I actually like them a lot because I test my combat skills on them. There are more of these bandits so no problem XD
What a long time it has been since I last visited your blog, it has been a long time. But anyway, it's always good to stop by and read you, I'm getting back in the swing of things.
Regarding the game Mount Blade II: Bannerlord I had not heard of it, I was surprised how good the graphics look despite being only screenshots, at first glance gives a very good impression.
I know there are several games similar to this one, I have always wanted to play one of this style, I suppose that the strategy is a fundamental factor to carry out the missions in the battlefield.
I can also notice that it is a quite long adventure, I'm curious to know how the outcome will be.
It's always a pleasure to pass by and read you my friend, I hope you feel well!
Yeah, man, it's been a long time. I'm glad you came back to Hive. This game is a visual feast. There's no limit to what we can do in the game. Soon I will found my kingdom of Hive.
Thanks for your kind words, I feel pretty good.
I wish you all the best in this adventure and may your kingdom become the paradise of many Hivers.
