Greetings, travelers and lovers of seeing the sights of Hive. I am very glad that you liked my Ephesus Ancient City posts, thank you again for your interest. Today I will share the third part of my Ephesus travel with you.

Last time I mentioned that we were just starting to dive into the depths, and as you can see in this photo, a lot of people were visiting this place and that's very gratifying. The more people who care about history, the better.

In the previous photo, the structure you see just to the left is the Fountain of Traianus. The fountain was built between 102-114 AD by Tiberius Claudius Aristion and his wife in honor of Artemis of Ephesus and Emperor Trajanus. You can see the architectural structure of the fountain on the far right in the bottom photo. It is definitely majestic.

By the way, the street we are walking up is called Curetes Street. A sewer runs underneath the street and the street is generally lined with artisans, craftsmen and restaurateurs. In front of each pillar along the street there are pedestals with an inscription of a marble or bronze statue and citizens or philanthropists who benefited this street were honored in this way. Isn't it incredible? Imagine that you build a building here and from that day on everyone who passes by sees your name. It's an honor and a good way to attract investment. The street is closed to traffic by the Heracles Gate, built in the Late Antiquity. Could this be the first street in history to be closed to traffic? Maybe @bemier knows.

In a particularly prominent place is the Memmius Monument, built between 50 and 30 BC. It is a monument of honor for Gaius Memmius, one of the grandsons of the Roman dictator Sulla. What wonderful things have been built in honor of people in the past. Today the world is so full that you cannot build a building for the most important people.

Even though I was tired from the heat, I didn't want to leave Ephesus without seeing everything because it was my first time and I didn't know when I would come back. My aunt, uncle and my little munchkin even gave up going up Kuretler Street and waited for me in front of the Fountain of Trajan. I couldn't wait to tell them everything I had seen and I took lots of photos to show them and you. This relief is one of them and it is probably a relief of a goddess.

This temple was originally dedicated to Emperor Domitianus, but after he died, his memory was cursed and it was handed over to the Flavius family. How wonderful it would have been to inherit something so magnificent. At the bottom right you can see the reconstruction of the temple. With the triumph of Christianity the building was dismantled down to the foundation stones and as you can see today it is almost gone. Look to the left of the top of the two columns. Again there is a wonderful bas-relief. It is both aesthetically pleasing and solidly built. It is very sad that today the building is destroyed.

This was a very magnificent building in the past and it has continued to be built up over the years. Today only the magnificent pedestal you see at the entrance remains. Unfortunately it was surrounded and I couldn't go inside. You can read its history by zooming in on the photo I shared with you.

Have you ever seen a water palace before? It sounds unbelievable when I say that this is a water palace, but it is. It was built in 80 AD and this 105 square meter palace was surrounded on 3 sides by 2-3 storey fancy facades and on the 4th side there was a boat where water was collected. The beauty of the architecture and the sculptures with water pouring from various parts attracted people's attention and this place became a point of attraction. If it were today, I think thousands of people would take selfies here. I can't lie that I would be one of them 😅

The road seemed endless as I walked but there were so many beautiful historical monuments everywhere that I never wanted to stop or turn around. How could I stop walking on a road with columns on both sides? I closed my eyes and thought I was a nobleman. It definitely made walking on this road more enjoyable.

This place is identified in an inscription as a nymphaeum, which means fountain building. In fact, this building was the end of the line that brought water to the city and the place where the water was divided. In other words, water was distributed to the whole city from here. Some sculptures were also found here during the excavation. Perhaps they were made in honor of the people who built this place. By the way, you can see how scorching the sun is much better in these two photos ☀️

During the rest of my walk I saw a miniature version of Ephesus. I wish you were there to see it because I could never take a good photo because of the reflections of the light. I tried my best but these are the two best photos I took.

When I thought I had reached the end of my journey, I realized that the road actually divides into two and I had only seen the right side. So there is also the left side that I need to see on the way back. So our adventure is not over yet.

Bir önceki fotoğrafta hemen sol tarafta gördüğünüz yapı Traianus Çeşmesi. Çeşme Milattan sonra 102-114 yılları arasında Tiberius Claudius Aristion ve eşi tarafından Efesli Artemis ve İmparator Traianus onuruna yaptırılmış. Alttaki fotoğrafta en sağda çeşmenin mimari yapısını görebilirsiniz. Görkemli olduğu kesin.

Bu arada bu yukarı doğru yürüdüğümüz caddeye Kuretler Caddesi adı verilmiş. Caddenin altından bir kanalizasyon geçiyor ve caddede genel olarak esnaflar, zanaatkarlar, lokantacılar hizmet veriyor. Cadde boyunca her sütunun önünde mermer ya da bronzdan bir heykele ait yazıtlı kaideler var ve bu caddeye fayda sağlayan vatandaşlar ya da hayırseverler bu şekilde onurlandırılmış. İnanılmaz değil mi? Buraya bir bina inşa ettirdiğinizi düşünün ve o günden sonra önünden geçen herkes sizin adınızı görüyor. Onur verici ve yatırım çekmek için iyi bir yöntem. Cadde Geç Antik Çağ'da inşa edilen Herakles Kapısı ile trafiğe kapatılmış. Bu cadde tarihte trafiğe kapatılan ilk cadde olabilir mi? Belki @bemier biliyordur.

Bu gördüğünüz Memmius Anıtı özellikle göze çarpan bir yerde Milattan önce 50 ve 30 yılları arasında inşa edilmiş. Romalı diktatör Sulla'nın torunlarından biri olan Gaius Memmius için bir onur anıtı. Geçmişte insanlar onuruna ne kadar harika şeyler inşa edilmiş. Günümüzde dünya o kadar dolu ki, en önemli insanlar için bir bina inşa edemiyorsunuz.

Sıcağın etkisiyle yorulmuş olmama rağmen her yeri gezmeden Efes'ten çıkmak istemedim çünkü ilk defa geliyordum ve bir daha ne zaman geleceğimi bilmiyordum. Halam, eniştem ve küçük cimcime Kuretler Caddesini çıkmaktan bile vazgeçtiler ve Traianus Çeşmesinin önünde beni beklemeye koyuldular. Gördüğüm her şeyi onlara anlatmak için sabırsızlanıyordum ve hem onlara hem size göstermek için bir sürü fotoğraf çektim. Bu kabartma onlardan bir tanesi ve muhtemelen bir tanrıçanın kabartması.

Bu tapınak aslında İmparator Domitianus'a adanmış ancak imparator öldükten sonra anısı lanetlenmiş ve Flaviuslar ailesine devredilmiş. Böyle görkemli bir şeyi devralmak ne harika olurdu. Sağ altta tapınağın rekonstrüksiyonunu görebilirsiniz. Hristiyanlığın zaferiyle bina temel taşlarına kadar sökülmüş ve günümüzde gördüğünüz gibi neredeyse yok olmuş. İki sütundan üsttekinin soluna bakın. Yine mükemmel bir kabartma var. Hem estetik hem de sağlam inşa edilmiş. Günümüzde binanın yok olması çok üzücü.

Bu gördüğünüz yapı geçmişte çok görkemliydi ve yıllar içinde geliştirilmeye devam edilmiş. Günümüzde sadece girişte gördüğünüz görkemli kaide kalmış. Ne yazık ki buranın etrafı çevriliydi ve içeri giremedim. Tarihçesini sizinle paylaştığım fotoğrafı yakınlaştırarak okuyabilirsiniz.

Daha önce bir su sarayı görmüş müydünüz? Burasının bir su sarayı olduğunu söylediğimde inanılmaz geliyor ama öyleymiş. Milattan sonra 80 yılında inşa edilmiş ve 105 metre karelik bu sarayın 3 yanı 2-3 katlı gösterişli fasatlarla çevrilmiş 4. yanında ise suyun toplandığı bir tekne varmış. Mimarinin güzelliği ve çeşitli yerlerinden su dökülen heykeller insanların çok ilgisini çekmiş ve burası bir cazibe noktası olmuş. Günümüzde olsaydı binlerce kişinin burada selfie çekeceğini düşünüyorum. Onlardan biri olacağım konusunda yalan söyleyemem 😅

Yürüdükçe yol bitmeyecek gibi geliyordu ama her yerde o kadar güzel tarihi eserler vardı ki asla durmak ya da dönmek istemedim. Böyle iki tarafında sütunlarla dolu bir yolda yürürken nasıl durabilirdim ki? Gözlerimi kapattım ve bir soylu olduğumu düşündüm. Bu yolda yürümek kesinlikle daha keyifli hale geldi.

Burası bir yazıtta çeşme binası anlamına gelen nymphaeum olarak tanımlanmıştır. Aslında bu yapı şehre su getiren hattın sonu ve suyun taksim edildiği yerdir. Yani bütün şehre su buradan dağıtılıyormuş. Kazı sırasında burada bazı heykeller de bulunmuş. Belki de burayı yaptıran kişilerin onuruna yapılmış heykellerdir. Bu arada güneşin ne kadar yakıcı olduğu bu iki fotoğrafta çok daha iyi anlaşılıyor ☀️

Yürüyüşümün devamında Efes'in minyatür halini gördüm. Orada olup görmenizi çok isterdim çünkü ışığın yansımalarından dolayı asla güzel bir fotoğraf çekemedim. Elimden geleni yaptım ama çektiğim en güzel iki fotoğraf bunlar.

Yolculuğumun sonuna geldiğimi düşünürken bir de baktım ki aslında yol ikiye ayrılıyor ve ben sadece sağ tarafı görmüşüm. Yani dönüşte görmem gereken sol taraf da var. Yani maceramız henüz bitmedi.
