Thank you for your tremendous interest in my previous post. Let's continue with the ancient city of Ephesus. While I was writing this post, I thought once again how time has passed. It seems like it hasn't been that long since I visited these places, but today I realized that it's been four months. Anyway...

As we were walking, we saw people taking photos on a terrace like this and my little cousin insisted that let's take photos too. I wasn't very interested at first.

But then I saw this view! Moreover, there was a sweet breeze and even seeing the shadow of these huge trees makes you feel cool haha. I really wanted to go there because it was so hot but I had a lot of places to sightsee first.

You never know what little kids want, she wanted to take a photo and then look at her actions. She was trying to hide in the camera. I think she might be a bit tired.

Further down the road was the Celeus library. I'm sure it was one of @bemier's favorite places to visit. My cousin finally decided to be in the photo. My aunt managed to pose well but my uncle lost the battle against the sun haha. I was fighting while taking the photo. We will take a closer look at the Celeus library later, for now let's continue our walk.

There are 3 different houses in these photos but one of these houses was interpreted as the house of love for a long time. However, it was not. It was actually an ordinary house. At least that's what the article says. Walking through these buildings made me feel the history in the fullest sense. It feels different. The fact that they have survived for centuries shows that old buildings are even stronger than today's ones. Moreover, in a city like Izmir where earthquakes are frequent. Nature is working non-stop and has already started to green the inside of the building.

Another gigantic monument of writing. I wish I could read this. Wait what? There's a translation? This is great!

If I translated a whole article for you, you probably wouldn't read it and would get bored, so I'll give you a summary. Emperor Valentinian sent a letter to Valens and Gratianus Eutropius and it talks about corruption. It says that some civil servants, instead of sending the income from the lands, kept it for themselves and embezzled the unproductive lands. This is crazy. It's sad to know that there was corruption centuries ago. But the emperors trusted Eutropius and thought he could correct it. because Eutropius has proven himself before.

There is an octagonal tomb of a woman in a square room called the Octagon. I think that's why they called it Oktagon. I would have loved to visit there but we had to pay extra money to visit there and we didn't want to. Maybe next time I will take a look there.

Let me show you how hot it was, some people were trying to protect themselves from the sun with umbrellas. I don't know how well that worked because it seemed to me that nothing could block the heat. 🌞

Be careful when you walk around because there are historical artifacts everywhere, you don't want to miss anything.

This is the temple of Hadrian. He didn't actually build the temple but according to an architectural inscription it honors Emperor Hadrian. The columns at the entrance of this temple might be the most impressive ones I have ever seen. You know, solid things are not very aesthetic. If you try to change something to make it look good, it can lose its strength. These columns, on the other hand, are strikingly beautiful and very strong. And you can see the little cutie-pie in the photo haha.

There were other pillars inside but they were damaged and broken.

The view from the terrace you see in the first photo was perfect. It also sees the Library of Celeus from the opposite side. I wish I could visit this ancient city from a bird's eye view. I'm sure it looks very impressive that way too.

There was a huge empty room in the temple. I think people were praying here. I don't know if it's because the investigations are still going on, they put a barrier on the right side to prevent people from approaching. A family of 10 could easily live here. I wonder if the rent is affordable 😂

There were many houses in the ancient city, but it is very sad that you cannot explore them. I would like to see the interior architecture but as you can see, this part is also closed with a barrier. The house was built in the 1st century BC and it is thought that it belonged to one of the city's elite because of the decoration of the house. Maybe it belonged to an important merchant. I think of bureaucrats and merchants when I think of the elite of the city at that time.

You may think that we are nearing the end of our adventure, but we are just diving into the depths. Everything I have seen so far has impressed me and I hope it has impressed you too.

Bir önceki postuma gösterdiğiniz muazzam ilgi için teşekkür ederim. Efes Antik şehrine kaldığımız yerden devam edelim. Bu postu yazarken zamanın nasıl geçtiğini bir kez daha düşündüm. Buraları gezeli sanki çok da olmamış gibi ama bugün üzerinden tam dört ay geçtiğini fark ettim. Her neyse...

Yürürken insanların böyle teras gibi bir yerde fotoğraf çektiklerini gördük ve küçük kuzenim hadi biz de fotoğraf çekelim diye ısrar etti. Başta çok da ilgimi çekmemişti.

Ama sonra şu manzarayı gördüm! Üstelik orada tatlı bir esinti vardı ve bu devasa ağaçların gölgesini görmek bile insanı serinletiyor haha. Çok sıcak olduğu için oraya gitmeyi çok istiyordum ama öncesinde gezmem gereken çok yer vardı.

Küçük çocukların ne istediğini asla bilemezsiniz, fotoğraf çekmeyi o istedi sonra da yaptığı hareketlere bakın. Kamerada saklanmaya çalışıyordu. Sanırım biraz yorulmuş olabilir.

Yolun ilerisinde Celeus kütüphanesi vardı. @bemier'in burayı gezerken en beğendiği yerlerden biri olduğuna eminim. Kuzenim de fotoğrafta yer almaya karar verdi sonunda. Halam güzel poz vermeyi başarmış ancak eniştem güneşe karşı olan savaşı kaybetmiş haha. Ben de fotoğrafı çekerken savaşıyordum. Celeus kütüphanesini daha sonra yakından inceleyeceğiz şimdilik yürüyüşümüze devam edelim.

Bu gördüğünüz fotoğraflarda 3 farklı ev var ancak bu evlerden bir tanesi uzun süre aşk evi olarak yorumlanmış. Ne var ki bu değilmiş. Aslında burası sıradan bir evmiş. En azından yazıda öyle olduğu yazıyor. Bu binaların içerisinde gezebilmek tarihi tam anlamıyla hissetmemi sağladı. Farklı hissettiriyor. Yüzyıllarca ayakta kalabilmesi eski binaların günümüzdekilerden bile daha sağlam olduğunu gösteriyor. Üstelik İzmir gibi sıkça depremlerin olduğu bir şehirde. Doğa ise durmadan çalışıyor ve binanın içini yeşillendirmeye başlamış bile.

Devasa bir yazı anıtı daha. Keşke bunu okuyabilseydim. Bekle ne? Çevirisi mi var? Bu harika!

Bütün bir yazıyı size çevirsem muhtemelen bunu okumaz ve sıkılırsınız o yüzden sizlere özet geçeceğim. İmparator Valentinianus, Valens ve Gratianus Eutropius'a bir yazı göndermiş ve yazıda yolsuzluktan bahsediliyor. Bazı devlet memurlarının topraklardan elde edilen geliri göndermek yerine bunu kendileri için tuttuklarını ve verimsiz arazileri de kendi zimmetlerine geçirdiklerinden bahsediliyor. Bu çılgınca. Yüzyıllar önce de yolsuzluk olduğun bilmek üzücü. Ama imparatorlar, Eutropius'a güveniyor ve onun bunu düzeltebileceğini düşünüyor. Çünkü Eutropius kendini daha önce kanıtlamış birisi.

Orada Oktagon adında kare bir odanın içinde sekiz köşeli bir kadın mezarı bulunuyor. Sanırım adına da bu yüzden Oktagon demişler. Orayı da gezmeyi çok isterdim ancak orayı gezmek için ekstra para ödememiz gerekiyordu ve biz bunu istemedik. Belki bir sonraki gidişimde oraya da bir göz atarım.

Ne kadar sıcak olduğunu size şöyle göstereyim, bazı insanlar ellerinde şemsiye ile güneşten korunmaya çalışıyordu. Bunun ne kadar işe yaradığını bilmiyorum çünkü bana o sıcağı hiçbir şey engelleyemezmiş gibi geliyordu. 🌞

Dolaşırken dikkatli olun çünkü her yer tarihi eserlerle dolu, hiçbir şeyi gözden kaçırmak istemezsiniz.

Bu gördüğünüz Hadrianus tapınağı. Aslında tapınağı o yaptırmamış ancak mimari bir yazıta göre İmparator Hadrianus'u onurlandırmaktadır. Bu tapınağın girişindeki sütunlar gördüklerim arasında en etkileyici olanlar olabilir. Bilirsiniz, sağlam şeyler pek estetik olmaz. Bir şeyi göze güzel görünecek şekilde değiştirmeye çalışırsanız sağlamlığını yitirebilir. Bu sütunlar ise göz alıcı güzellikte ve çok sağlam. Ve fotoğrafta minik cimcime de görünüyor haha.

İçeride başka sütunlar da vardı ama bunlar zarar görmüş ve parçalanmış.

İlk fotoğrafta gördüğünüz teras kısmında manzara mükemmeldi. Celeus Kütüphanesi'ni de tam karşıdan görüyor. Bu antik kenti kuş uçuşu gezebilmeyi çok isterdim. Öyle de çok etkileyici göründüğüne eminim.

Tapınakta kocaman ve boş bir oda vardı. Sanırım burada insanlar dua ediyordu. İncelemeler hala devam ettiğinden mi bilmiyorum sağ tarafta insanların yaklaşmaması için engel koymuşlar. Burada 10 kişilik bir aile kolayca yaşayabilir. Kirası uygun mu acaba 😂

Antik kentte pek çok ev vardı ama içinin gezilemiyor olması çok üzücü. İç mimarisini görmeyi isterdim ancak gördüğünüz gibi bu kısım da bariyerle kapatılmış. Ev milattan önce 1. yüzyılda inşa edilmiş ve evin dekorasyonundan dolayı kentin ileri gelenlerinden birine ait olduğu düşünülüyor. Belki de önemli bir tüccara aittir. O dönemde şehrin ileri geleni denince aklıma bürokrat ve tüccarlar geliyor.

Maceramızın sonuna yaklaştığımızı düşünüyor olabilirsiniz ancak henüz derinliklere yeni dalıyoruz. Şimdiye kadar gördüğüm her şey beni çok etkilemişti umarım sizi de etkilemiştir.
