End of the Hostility
Hostility is a place in the heart of war.
War.
I was saying the other day that violence is gray.. I mean the idea of it. The news reports looting as violence. And there's the violence of mean words, but those are distinctly different from war. Is shoplifting violence? If so, is violence just whenever we violate laws? Well then war isn't violence, because it's legal. Is the death penalty violence?
I have some opinions.
Well this all came up because someone said that violence is the antithesis of art.
I think that is a little nonsensical. Like, I see the point he's trying to make, but I think art and violence have grey areas that overlap. Certainly some people think vandalism is violence and that graffiti is vandalism. And other people think graffiti is art. So we have a clear case of overlapping definitions.
I don't think it behooves us to have sturdy definitions for big ideas, and both violence and art are big ideas. Now that we're talking about it, I don't think anything is a small idea.
What would that even be? One.
Is that small, but one is so many different things. one as a concept on its own or one of something, and then it's all the things and one big thing or one small thing.
