My Journey to Self Discovery

Self-discovery simply means the process of understanding your true self: your values, your needs and want, even what food you like and dislike. It can also mean cultivating a deep understanding of your character, feelings, and desires. Self-discovery makes you have greater self-control, empathy, creativity, and self-esteem.

Self-discovery can also be defined as a way for a person to find who they are in the inside and to be able to express show or bring forth their characteristics to others. I’m going to be sharing my own experience of how I discovered myself.

I can remember that while I was still very young, I had always dreamed of whom I wanted to become in life. I channeled all my energy and reasoning to how I was going to be big and even calculated it in my head as to how I was going to achieve my dreams.
I had always wanted to be a lawyer since I was six. My family members even started calling me a barrister. I was so passionate and eager to be a lawyer.
I finished primary school with very good grades. This made me think I was going to be what I had always wanted to be. Same with secondary school. At some point when I had become of age I began to realize that life was not the way I had always thought it to be.
I thought life was always going to be smooth, things will always go the way we wanted, but there was more to life. It became tough and hit me harder than I had expected.

When I sat for the Joint Admission Matriculation Board exams and did not get what I wanted, I came to have the understanding that there was much more to life.
As kids we had no responsibility, we just played around with little or nothing to worry about. This happened to many of us, we took nothing serious, we only mapped out a great future and dreams in our heads not knowing the future holds other things.
As I said earlier, all my life I wanted to be a lawyer. But things turned out differently after I sat for the JAMB exams. To tell you that I had nothing else on my mind, I was so confused that I did not know what other course to do when I was told I had no other option than to change the course.

The man there gave options but I kept rejecting. He gave me this and I felt this inner urge to take. Called my parents and they told me if its what I wanted I should go ahead. I did not accept it yet because I had to talk to my heavenly father. I did, and he gave me an answer saying something great was in store for me because of this.

I accepted it and miraculously I was offered admission to study the course. This particular incident helped me to discover myself. I started connecting with it and I came to discover that that was meant for me all this while.
