CUSTOMERS OR VICTIMS ? / / MY TAKE IN FASHION INDUSTRY
___________________________________Hello Hivers___________________________________
A couple of days ago I came across to #KISS - Blogging Ideas 32 weekly topic from "The MINIMALIST" community which I found really interesting and inspiring to write about. The last year I started invlolving with fashion more and more cause I am planning to work on this field so I have read about many topics did a lot of research about this industry. I can say for sure that the fashion industry is a whole topic itself with many props and cons that requires hours of discussion.
Women & Fashion
The fashion industry knows well who is the most important client for their products and it's women. Yes people claim that women are obsessed with keeping up with fashion and that is so true but the thing is that this is not something that we have natural in our DNA but something that the fashion industry and the marketing field has created all those years. I am talking about the emergence of more and more needs for every woman by the society and all those industries who wants to sell new products.
Of course from the old days every woman loved to buy good quality and flattering clothing that brings out their presonality and their flair but back then there was a limit at the consuming. Everything used to be more minimal then and every wardrobe had only some good quality all time classic and collective outfits, one or two type of bags and shoes and some accessories. In our days woman is a true target of all those indusrties which try to sell their products and they use pressure with many different ways such as social media, television and advertisments all over the internet. All those instagram and social media influences have convinced every ordinary woman that should look like them, dress like them, adopt the same style and the same products they use and not only in fashion industry but also at the beauty industry as well.
Most of women have been brainwashed from all those countless informations around us and have started consuming without thinking and also limitless. The saddest part of this is that we end up dress all the same with no identity or personal flair and most of time we don't even care if a clothing fitting right to our body or our style and this is just so impersonal and scary. Also one more dark aspect of this subject is that on the efford of keeping up with the latest trends which are appearing constantly, most of women choose to buy their outfits from huge fast fashion industries because of their affordable cheap prices and don't care or even been aware of the extremely low quility of materials or the despicable exploitation of workers.
As I told you at the beggining of this post fashion industry is a topic which needs many hours or even days of discussion because there are many problems on it and fast fashion industries is one of the biggest. I am gonna discuss that part more extensively later.
A strong quote from Will Rogers that also used in fight club movie, fits perfectly here:
We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like.
Teenagers & Fashion
I don't have children on my own but I used to communicate with many of them at my previous work. Teenagers have become targets as well the past few years from the fashion industry. Those ages are the easiest to manipulate cause young people don't have fully developed personalities and can be influenced by anything around them.
Social media is used constantly by teenagers so it is a huge tool for fashion industries to lure them into buying new stuff. Sometimes marketists of fashion industries might not targeting teenagers directly but using different way such as through music industry. For example I have observered a lot teenagers behavour on my country and they are all super influnced by trap music and trapers appearance. All the teenager boys are dressing and behaving excactly the same way, in particular they copy and buy the excact whole style and outfit of famous trapers. God, is like they came out from a production machine and this is kinda serious issue.
As stated before children of these ages don't have a fully developed personality so they want to fit somewhere and being liked. So I strongly believe that teenagers face peer pressure about fashion style and that make them victims of fashion industries and fashion trends.
Pet Peeves & Choises About Fashion Industry
As I mentioned at the beggining of this post fashion industry has many serious issues to discuss about no matter how much I love and appreciate this creative field. The thing is that we all consuming mostly with no limits, we buy stuff that we don't truly need just to feel better for a while or worst we buy out of boredom.
The fashion industry coming up constantly with new trends and persuade people to buy more and more in order to be in fashion even though we do not have to do this. I love obesrving new trends that coming up and watching every seasons fashion shows, it is a part of my job but I do not like every trend and also everything I like doesn't mean that it fits my style or personality. I mean that everyone should have their own opinion and personal style and also have knowledge of what fits and looks good on them. I hate when I see people adopting every single trend and style that is in fashion just beacuse it is in fashion! Not every clothing or style fits us good or flattering us guys. Of course the worst is, as I said before, that we all end up wearing the excact same clothes and styles and this is something so impersonal and sad.
As I mentioned before there is a huge pestilence for the fashion field which is called fast fashion industry. People want to keep up with the new fashion trends which are constantly appearing and in order to afford all those expenses it is reasonable to turn to the cheapest solutions. This situation made all those fast fashion industries grow more and more in our days and become the most famous selling companies around the world.
What annoys me more about it is that people pay zero attention to the quality of products they buy and getting used to wearing trash fabrics that doesn't make their body breath or feel good on them and also looks pretty shitty. What is the result of buying products like this? You can wear those rags just a couple of times until the trend is over and then all these end up at landfills.
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting field itself but now with the fast fashion companies the problem is getting huge. Another problematic and extremely important factor of fast fashion industry is the way it works and produce. People work under despicable conditions doing exhausting overtimes and payed with meagre money. Most of workers at industries like these are little children who suffer working there. These situations are real and I am not sure if customers are unaware of all these or worst they know and don't even care. Both scenarios are disturbing and sad.
I used to buy from fast fashion companies when I was younger before I read information about all these inhuman conditions inside those industries because of the cheap prices. Even back then I could tell the difference between a good quality clothing and the disappointing quility and fit of those fast fashion clothes, it is pretty obsious even if you are not an expert. Also I never was a person that wanted to following blindly the fashion trends, I always had my personal style and point of view so I was picking only particular pieces.
Years after I learned how these industries work I stopped buying and supporting and started searching for other ways to buy affordable and at the same time quality clothes. It was when the first second hand and thrift stores started appearing in my country and I was really stoked about it. Since then most of my purchases are from those stores, I have found so many amazing and mainly unique pieces with excelent quality of fabrics and great fitting.
One of the main reasons I got involved with fashion field is that since I was a little girl I had so many designs and ideas on my mind about clothes I wanted to wear and I couldn't find them anywhere, so I decided to become a creator and make this true. So at this stage of my life I have finally started designing and sewing my own clothes and I am more than excited with that!
Men & Fashion
When it comes to mens fashion I have observed that fashion industries the last years are doing some extra efforts to attract more men customers and trying to create new needs for them. The old years things were more simple for men usually their wardrobe containted some casual clothing, one or two formal suits and their basic accessories were some cuff links and a nice watch.
In our days fashion industries have generated new needs for men too, especially with the accessories like leather backpacks or bags that they didn't carry before, or more jewelries like chains and bracelets. Also more outfits for different occasions of the day have been created and mens fashion has overcome the more strict dresscode of the past years.
The fashion victim effect is not so intense in men customers as in women and it is not worldwile. I mean if I can talk about men in my country you can see that most of them doesn't care a lot about fashion latest trends, they just do some shopping every now and then and that's all. If I talk about America or Paris that I observe street fashion you can see more often men well dressed due to the fashion trends and musts. So this topic about men is kinda controversial and has to do with many different factors. From my circle of men friends I have learned that they don't pay a lot of attention of fashion's trends, they mostly buy things they find and like. Most of men also are bored to do shopping and that is why they usually purchase clothes once or twice a year.
This is my opinion and my point of view about the fashion industry, some things might sound wrong or a little too much. The fact is that this was a really interesting topic by the community which I enjoyed much writting about. I would love to see the other posts about this topic and read the different opinions of people here. If I could invite someone to write about this topic it would be my girl @kesityu.fashion who's point of view is so considerable.
Thank you all for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed my post. Lets discuss this topic at the comment section bellow.
Have a great day and live simply!
I also observe the same thing within my country. A lot of people are obsessed with clothing and how they would look in front of other people with the expense of sacrificing for it. I heard a story of more than one family who prioritize make up and clothing over food - they prefer to look good rather than feel good.
There was a time during my younger years where I feel like following the trend. But as of now, I don't even wear a watch and I prefer plain looking but quality clothes. I don't want to spend a ton of money to be a walking billboard for these big clothing companies. 😁
!1UP
Oh god this story sounds so crazy, who does this to his family damn!
I can't agree more with you. It is important to know what you truly need, search for a good quality product and buy it. All this overconsupmtion around us is so no sense!
I heard two families that does this in our own community. The rest of the community also can't understand why they would sacrifice having an empty stomach just to look good.
I don't know what to say..I hope those families don't starve cause it's not worth it.😕

The fashion industry is one of the most polluting that exists unfortunately!
That is so true! So glamourous field but so rotten on the inside.😐
I totally agree!! ...and how many hours indeed we could talk about this subject.
Especially the aspect of teenagers and how the industry pushes them in one direction is a very important point I find. On top of it you really "need" or "want" to follow certain trends to be part of the group, so really it can fuck up your whole life further than just the clothing... As you said in younger age it all gets very much imposed on you, when later you have a bit more of a choice or say..
anyway, well said:) even though a sad subject, still very interesting to discus or find some awesome and creative other ways, to get around and out of the fast fashion industry..:)
until soon💕
Sadly that's exactly how things are.
The future is on our generation's hands and I really believe we can change this if we want to.
Thank you for your comment, cheers!❤️
Yes we definitely can, I also thing sometimes it is nice to focus on all the possibilities and solutions we have available!:)
