That Magnum & Dirty Politics

We were out most of yesterday for various reasons. First, visiting the in-laws, next was heading to the polls to cast our votes for the local elections and third, going home to the other house and spending a bit more time with my old folks.

We stayed there until around half-past 3 in the afternoon.

On our way back home, we thought of having an ice cream. Sort of a treat. "Pint, cone, or Magnum?" I asked the husband. We went for the Magnum, the pricey Belgian ice cream bar that melts in your mouth. Glad we did not see any on a pint or else, lol! The husband opted for the classic flavor and I had cookies and cream. Yum!



Anyhow, back to the elections, while at my parents, we learned that one of the political contenders (candidates) was trying to get credit for a project that we, as a small community are doing to improve our roads here where our tiny kingdom is located.

The day before the polls, this candidate sent his younger brother to us, asking for our support (VOTE). We were utterly disgusted but we stayed civil during the entire time because well, we thought his brother was just the messenger. Besides, we didn't want to be rude. However, when he left, my husband and I agreed that we are not voting for such a person.

The thing is we have tried requesting support from the local government to fast-track the improvements of our roads but things fell on deaf ears. So instead of waiting for public funds to build better infrastructures for us, we as a community agreed to do them ourselves, even when it meant spending our own money. And for 3 years now, we have been doing that.

Currently, there is a project that the community is working on where we hired equipment (a backhoe) and its operator to clear a certain portion of the road. We were quiet about it but were surprised and pissed that one person was trying to get credit for it when he didn't even contribute a cent or visited the place even. He's got the nerves, huh!

What is funny (not really) is that this certain person chose to bank on other people's opinions and not correct them for the misinformation they have been given. Perhaps he wasn't really thinking about the repercussions of his actions but people will always talk. And true enough, words got out even before the elections concluded. Rumors had it that this person bought some people's votes too.

The final result, he lost - big time!

I was kind of pleased to hear that he didn't make it and so as the others who had been in the local government office for two terms already but have not made any significant contributions to the betterment of the locality. Much deserved!

People had their bets on. According to my brother, large sums of money were involved. He had his too and the good thing? They won!

So yep, I'm happy and the rant is over, LOL!

I am feeling interested in buying ice cream but I am not going to do it because I am feeling unwell because of coldness from last night.
Buying votes is a crime and it's indeed it's dirty politics. I hate it. But the good thing is that he lost in the election.

I'm so tempted to go visit the grocery store and buy a magnum too. Nang iinggit ka so penge nalanggggg ⊙﹏⊙ hahaha. The truth is I haven't really tasted magnum yet, never ever, sadly huhu. Skl haha.

Anyways, ang kapal naman ng face ng kandidato na yan ah. Ang lakas ng loob nyang magsinungaling lioe seriously, pano nya nakakaya yon especially maririnig yon ng mga taong totoong gumastos for it? Di nya siguro naisip yon no? Just to when he will ignore everything even the truth. Buti nga sa kanya talo sya. Di nya seserve manalo my gosh.

We have sleeze like that too here. Taking credit which is why people don’t do anything for themselves here anymore especially when it comes to work. The government would try to take credit.

Over here, he wouldn’t have lost if he had a powerful backing. At least, there was some justice there

I think it happens almost everywhere, but yes, at least people are learning and most do not rally behind public servants who only show up when they need support.

Your elections are something else.
I knew someone in Cebu who had two cousins running and in the provinces and they lost as would not pay bribes.
Then another person they had not seen for 20 years coming begging for money for their campaign find!
Magnum is nice but too fluffing cold here for one!

You are right about that, Tito Ed. Politics brings out many things. I have not been reading but in the past, there are stories of ambush and related crimes.

Sorry about the road over there
Our road here too is extremely bad and it can be very annoying. The government has refused to do it. Intact, they have never done the road before

Our roads are okay. We do not rely on the government for improvements because if we do, we would be waiting forever, lol! Sorry too about the situations there in your place. Hope things will be better.

As a magnum lover, I was about to jump in hahaha . Politics are nasty, I mean, I just don't get how so.much nasty corrupting runs rampant with such impunity.

Politics is definitely shit at best, corrupt at worst. The only good thing is that we can force change locally. Make sure to keep the pressure on these local assholes even though they had some shenanigans - if the people that are in their community band together they can get rid of these corrupt fools. Keep the pressure on!
