Overrated and Annoying

It's funny how you find some irrelevant trends overrated and mind-blowing ones underrated. You keep hearing of a particular trend or thing being overrated only to take a closer look and discover it's overrated and stupid to a fault.

This week, we want you to tell us 3 things you feel are so overrated on today’s world.

There are so many things and trends I find overrated
The first on my list is worshiping celebrities or simply put idolizing celebrities.
Who made it a rule that I must have a particular celebrity that I love or I must have a particular celebrity that I am a die-hard fan of?

Loving these celebrities is one thing but worshiping them and seeing them as demi-gods is another thing! And you know what is worse? Tagging people who are not crazy about celebrities as boring is crap.

Reverencing these people and seeing them as perfection is what causes most of these celebrities to go crazy as some of them try so hard to please their fans and to maintain the status quo. People have failed to understand that these celebrities are first humans before they are celebrities. People worship the ground they walk on and do so many crazy things all in the name of being "die-hard fans". Don't get it twisted, I love some celebrities and I also draw inspiration from some of them but the one thing I wouldn't do is go bonkers for them.

What pisses me off the most is how people tend to make you feel if you don't have any fave(favorite), you ask me who my fave is and I say I don't have any and you look at me like I am a weirdo or old school but hey!! I am not, some of us don't give so much attention to such things and these are not a prerequisite to being a good human being or living a decent life.

Another overrated trend is having a complicated skincare routine.
Unwritten rules are formed unconsciously every day and we just don’t know when we begin to go with the flow.

Skincare routine have taken a new form as we are forced to see people with complicated skincare routines as the main people in the skincare game while people with simple skincare routines are seen as not doing anything or not doing enough and it's crazy. Why do I need to lay my face with so many products before it feels like I’m taking good care of my skin? Just because a certain person started a trend and now we all should follow suit? Having a complicated skincare routine is overrated and the risk of endangering one’s skin is high, don’t get me started with how expensive it is! Simply put there’s nothing special about having a complicated skincare routine.

Furthermore, I find social media overrated. People are so crazy about social media, people want to update us on everything happening in their lives, some want to go viral others are so lonely, and as such derive joy in trolling others on social media.

People have made it look like there’s no life outside of social media and this amazes me. I mean what were we before the invention of social media?
People now use the amount of followers, likes, and comments you have as a yardstick for measuring how cool you are, which is totally insane to me. You are not just judged by your appearance or intellect but also by your various accounts on different social media platforms.

People who are not addicted to social media are seen as boring people which still surprises me to date. Remove social media and so many people would be screwed while the non addicts will carry on with their lives like nothing ever happened.

These and many more are the things and trends I find overrated.

All images are mine except otherwise stated.

I like the fact that you touched major areas that irks me. I don't have a problem with skin care and all but where I have a problem is with the idolizing celebs, that's just way over the top of overrated trends for me

I agree with all of these things although I can't really relate to the idolization of celebrities because thankfully I don't really know anyone like this. I did see that there are some celebrities that are endorsing political candidates and I find this profoundly stupid because ok, I get it, you like that actor or singer, but why would you care what their politics are? I have met a couple of celebrities in my life and wasn't very surprised to find out that the image the present of themselves on talk shows and interviews etc. is not really what they are like. Mostly, they were just kind of jerks.

As far as skin-care is concerned, I watched a documentary not that long ago about how almost all of the products that are sold either don't help as much as they claim, or don't even do what they say in the advertisements at all. One thing they focused on was a "mud bath" routine that they were selling for hundreds of dollars in hoity toity spas in New York City. The spas claimed that the mud was from Europe and it was super nutrient rich and good for your skin. When it was tested by these "mythbuster" kind of people they found that not only were the nutrients not really beneficial to anyone's skin, but the soil that is naturally around them all the time in NYC has higher levels of the same nutrients than the stuff the spa had. So these people were paying hundreds of dollars for something they could have gotten for free from their own yard.

I think it is important to not let advertisers trick you and especially to not believe celebrities when they endorse a product because they were PAID to say those things. One of the main ones I can think of is when Gweneth Paltrov was selling this alkaline water because of the lowered PH in it, then she said she likes to add a bit of lemon to hers every morning... By adding the lemon she had changed the PH of the water so that it was the same as regular tap water. She has no idea what she is doing but just says these stupid things to make money off of her idiot fans.

Exactly!! Many of them project a false image of themselves making people think they are all lovely and sweet. That’s why it is advised that you believe everything you see on the media at your own peril.

So these people were paying hundreds of dollars for something they could have gotten for free from their own yard.

Holly Molly! That was one massive scam!! I can imagine how stupid those people felt after the revelation.

It’s so crazy what these advertisers and celebrities do while advertising their products, the level of dishonesty is just too much.

Thanks for dropping such a meaningful comment friend.
