A Quiet Place: Day One.
My mind was at a loss as to what I would receive when the rumor of “A Quiet Place: Day One” came my way. The trailers gave me some kind of doubt but am glad I ended up watching this movie. This film is a spin-off from the famous horror series and it revolves around a new character called Sam. She has cancer and her story is grippingly emotional.
We see Sam starting by deciding to go on a trip to Manhattan from hospice. It’s not just her, she has got the nurse Reuben and her cute little service cat Frodo with her. And this is not an ordinary outing, no sir it is special since Sam insists they stop for her favorite pizza in Harlem. However, things get complicated because there are already alien invasions happening like in the first one. These aliens are extremely horrifying because they hunt by sound; killing anything that creates noise.
The background quickly changes from dangerous backdrops to noisy streets full of deadly aliens as their journey takes them through New York City. They find a hideout where Sam and Reuben meet Henri who is featured in the previous film too. Henri faces some really tough decisions on how to survive which adds much suspense and emotion into their storyline.'
The most thrilling part of the movie is when Sam helps some children in Central Park. Moments later, she meets Joseph Quinn’s character Eric. The intensity of their silence to avoid the aliens causes you to sit at the edge of your chair.
What made me love this movie was that it takes fear and suspense to another level. Previously, these films were set in countryside surroundings however this one shows New York City as its backdrop. The vibrant city with its constant din adds to the horror. Each tiny noise or loud bang can be a call for aliens that creates great tension and joy.
Sam is played by Lupita Nyong’o, who delivers a stunning performance. Her character is a person you can sympathize with. Sam on the other hand doesn’t let her sickness or fear get in the way, she insists on being courageous throughout. The actress was so great; I think some people even hoped she would win an Oscar.
Initially, I was not impressed with the movie since its trailers did not give much away. However, I was surprised. The film captivates you through its tense atmosphere and thrilling alien encounters. It can be seen that much effort went into ensuring every scene seemed genuine and frightening.
