On Wednesday afternoon the NUEE( National Union of Electricity Employees) decided to embark on a nationwide strike due to the alleged failure of the federal government to pay the entitlement of former staff of PHCN( Power Holding Company Of Nigeria) since the government promised in 2019.

The National Secretary of the NUEE which goes by the name of Mr Joe Ajaero said they have given the government a one-week warning strike but unfortunately the government did not take their warnings seriously, which forced the NUEE to embark on the strike.

I watched a video on Twitter where the members of the NUEE turned off the power supply in Abuja. The Secretary directed all members of the NUEE to ensure they comply with the strike. Mr Joe Ajaero made a vow that nothing was going to stop the strike unless the government fulfilled the promise it made in 2019.

Arise tv had an interview with Mr Joe Ajaero, and he said "The strike will commence today( Wednesday), barring any last-minute miracle. The issues are beyond TCN and the minister. There is the promotion issue which we don’t have a problem with and will be handled by the TCN.

“The circular by the Head of Service can only be addressed by the service and the Minister of Labour.

“The Minister of State cannot speak for the Head of Service.

“We wrote about three letters for clarification and we didn’t start with an ultimatum, but there was no response which forced our hands. This was after the TCN said it was beyond their capability to resolve the matter".Source

The government keeps proving how much of a failure they are, they tamper with one of the most important sectors in the country and most Nigerian businesses need electricity to function. Imagine someone who owns a cold room business and NUEE has to decide not to turn on the electricity, how do they expect the business to function properly even with the option of using an industry generator, with the high price of diesel and fuel the owner is likely to spend more than he/she received from the business.

The strike did not take long as it ended yesterday evening after a meeting between the NUEE and the federal government. The government has assured to work out a solution to resolve and make a solution to the demands of NUEE. I think this is the first time I have heard the government quickly respond to a pressing issue cornering the affairs of the country, I wish they could put this same energy into insecurity.

Hopefully, by now, power would have been restored to various parts of the country. So guys that will be all for today, thanks for stopping by.

The strike by the electricity workers which has been quickly resolved by the FG shows that they know the value of that sector. But the ASUU strike has been on for months, does that mean that education is not even part of their top priority..?🙆

All their kid's schools abroad that way they don't bother, I remember when the general assembly decided to pass a bill that no politician will be allowed to send their kids abroad to study if you see the way they protest against the bill like it was life or death, it caused fight in the assembly.

The thing is such a bill can never be passed into law. On legal basis, it will be biased. You know, basically, those sending their kids abroad have the money so they shoukd be allowed. Having such a law is like saying everybody should attend public primary and secondary school compulsorily.!
