A Father's Dream
I believe that you meet each and every person for a reason. You teach some, you learn from some, the good and bad experiences with each type remains constant. There are some people which you can choose to have a day in your life and some who are basically forced upon you. You can't really do much about them. Consider yourself lucky if you find good people from the second category because they are your immediate family members.
*It gets really hard when you think of it. Choosing a role model is like differentiating between your favorite Netflix shows. You learn different things from all of them. But I believe at the end of the day, similar to that one show which is really close to your heart, you have that one role model, who means the world to you. I have that person in my life and that is:
MY DAD
He was born in the worst possible year of Pakistan's history, ie, 1965, when the first Pak-Indo war officially started. My dad was born in a poor family and I guess it was from there, he developed a driving force of doing something for his family. He graduated as the only doctor from his extended family. From his childhood he had a predilection for public speaking. Being a confident lad from a very young age, he participated in a lot of public speaking competitions, winning almost all of them.
It is from his genes, I suppose, I have a huge liking for public speaking and writing. He has a political inclination as well and this trait has taught me a lot. I'll tell you how. I'll be mentioning some of the points why I consider him as my role model.
INTEGRITY
If there's one thing that my dad has emphasized upon whole life, it's integrity. We have always been taught to be as honest and as genuine as possible. There will be times when you'll think that lying is the only viable option, he said, but remember its exactly in situations like these, you'll have to be true to yourself and your morals, he concluded.
Seeing poverty from a very young age, my dad developed into a responsible man and that responsibility has been transferred to all his kids, including me. No matter the situation I'm going through, no matter how tired I am, if there's something that needs to be done, I'll do it. I have seen my dad going sleepless nights while he was completing his research work. I have seen him working for 15 hours a day to feed his family. I have seen himself living alone abroad in a foreign country even though he literally hates living without his family. All of this, he did for his family.
BEING COMPASSIONATE
You'll never be able to achieve success if you're not compassionate. If you can't put yourself in others' shoes and feel how they felt at that moment. Talking about success, I learned a very important lesson from my dad. What's success? Is it millions of dollars or is it lots of fame. Is it owning 20 cars or is it having a private Island. He told me the real definition of success. It might be different for you but for me real success is having a good night's sleep. Knowing that you gave your all. Knowing that you didn't hurt anyone intentionally. Knowing that your intentions were clear. Knowing that you have a good heart. Knowing that you were compassionate the whole day. Success comes everyday. It's taking small baby steps in order to reach the ultimate success.
So yes, my role model taught me that no matter how hard life is to you. No matter how much life's Pulling you down, you are not entitled to treat people lie trash.
GIVING UP IS NOT AN OPTION
Out of the million other things, one of the most important lesson that my father has taught me is giving up is never an option. Not just with words, he has set up the bar so high with his actions that I never give up on anything or any person. He has taught me commitment. He has taught me how to be a dedicated person. He has taught me that I have to fulfill my responsibilities no matter what. Through all his lessons and teachings, I can say proudly that I am at this stage, a successful person, aiming to get higher.*
CONCLUSION
I know a role model could be anyone. I'll be reading the rest of the entries for this contest and I'm sure, I'll be finding a lot of different personalities in all of yours posts. For me, it's.y dad and he'll remain there. For my last words, I'd like to say, I really enjoyed taking part in this contest and I hope there are more contests like this in the future as well.
