THE ANIMAL RESEARCH DILEMMA

When it comes to experiments, there are a lot of things that are often put into consideration but then, the major aim of most experiments especially medical related experiments, is mainly to find a way to make human existence more healthier and extended and this is done buy studying the structures, functions and also the different metabolism of the human body. Studying the human body is way more complex than most animals we know. Although as humans, we share some things in common with some of these animals. Due to the complexities of the human body, it is one reason why it is not ideal to make use of a human body for some research work except after carrying out that results on other organisms.

Today, in the medical field, animals (vertebrates particularly) are used for most research purposes in order to come up with some cure and vaccines for some diseases that have either affected the world or a particular region at one point or another. The main reasons why animals are most preferred for this experiments is not really because humans hate them, but sadly, they are the only organisms that have some similar characteristics as humans (this is because these animals have similar metabolism, structured and functions as humans). Using a plant for an experiment will yield no results and that is why plants are completely out of the picture.

Some times, the human body is also used for these experiments but then, it is mostly at the penultimate stage because like I mentioned earlier, the human body is too complex to just start a research project on. Animals are way easier and most times effective in getting the results needed and this is done not for selfish reasons but for the good of everyone even other animals as well. No medical personnel just carry any animal to work with, they most times have to cultivate these animals just for experiment purposes.

And for most of those humans that are used for these experiments, they are mostly criminals that have been condemned to die but instead of just letting them die for nothing, they sometimes use them for these research purposes and today, thanks to those animals and humans, we have been able to treat so many diseases today. These animals and humans didn’t just die for anything, they were more of a sacrifice for life as a whole. Because of how sensitive this is, that is why someone can’t just take their pets and use them for experiments.

Sacrificing animals have always been a practice and it is something that is done mostly out of necessity. If only it was possible not to use them, I’m very sure that other option would have been explored. But then, on the aspects of these animals used, it is so unfair and I remember I once saw a series that suggested that “what if one day these animals just mutated and decides to fight back and not just sit there and watch humans use them anyhow? It was quite an interesting series but I really hope that doesn’t happen because it would be disastrous.

No one can guarantee anyone that diseases will cease, therefore, it is impossible to promise that the use of animals for research purposes would stop. But then, those who carry out this experiments should just make sure not to waste the life of any animals unnecessarily. Medical personnels who carry out these experiments should always make sure that the life of each animal counts in the lab and I believe that will be a little consolation to the hearts of those who finds a problem with the use of animals for experiments.

If we seize using these animals for experiments, it will do us no good because more persons and even animals will end up dying because treatments will be given based on assumptions and not facts. This is way dangerous than sacrificing animals but then, I’m not sure if there will be alternatives in the future but then, I believe anything is possible. Maybe one day, a technology can be created that will be able to detect diseases and suggest possible solutions without having to kill so many animals.
