MANDATORY MEDCHECK

(Edited)

An inspired man once said, everything is lawful but not everything is helpful. A compulsory check up is obviously from the mind of someone who wants people to take their health more seriously and I must commend that, but then, making medical check ups compulsory has it’s advantages and its disadvantage so before I will say my take on this, let’s list out a few advantages and disadvantages and see which decision will be best for the general population.

So according to the Hivelearners topic for this edition, ”COMPULSORY HEALTHCARE”, we are asked to give our opinion whether or not it will be a good idea for the general population or not. So without further ado, let’s dive right into my thoughts and opinions about this topic.

Like I stated when I started, the major aim of this question is supposedly from a place of care and good intentions. As we all know, our health is very important so, taking care of it according to this question, shouldn’t be a matter of if we want it or not, but should be mandatory. And this is because people are always stubborn to do what they need to do sometimes except they are compelled to do so. A lot of people joke with their health and this can be really worrying for those around them, hence, suggestions like this starts breeding in the minds of people.

But then, just because it’s a good intention, does that make it helpful? Well, we will get our answers as we dive deeper into this discussion. Naturally, as humans, the more we are compelled to do something without due reasons, the more rebellious we tend to become. If the government was to just wake up one day to make healthcare check ups compulsory, and a penalty for failure to comply, their goals might be achieved but then, I’m not sure if they will also be ready to manage the consequences of their decisions in the long run.

By making check ups compulsory, people will always be aware of their overall health conditions and that will help them know when something is wrong with their health and attend to it as soon as possible. Not just that, they will also be more health conscious as they will want to lead a more healthier lifestyle so as to avoid unnecessary health problems. Also, if people are able to detect their health challenges in time, it will save them the extra cost for treatment unlike someone who waits until the last phase of their health problems. And finally, this will help people to be more aware and educated of how important it is to care for their over all well being and also help them to know of possible health problems and preventions.

As we have just read, there are many advantages of having a compulsory health care check ups but before we draw the curtain, let’s peep into the disadvantages of making health care check ups compulsory. The first obviously disadvantage is the fact that it is an infringement on human right. Compelling people to constantly check up on their health with consequences attached is an infringement on their fundamental human right. And this might lead to them having resentment and eventually their noncompliance to the law.

Forcing people to always check up on their health will be a burden to the health care facilities and equipment as it will cause more turn out than the facility can most times handle. Just imagine going to the bank during a period where there is cash scarcity or going to the hospital during a pandemic outbreak, yes, that’s exactly what I’m taking about. Because people are compelled to go for these check ups, you will hardly ever find the hospitals, clinics and healthcare centers less populated. And besides the economic burden on the health centers, it will also be a financial burden for some people.

Due to this overpopulation, there is every tendency of people getting less attention and care. Also, there will be partiality and this may defeat the purpose of this law. This will also lead to more corruption and bribery. Those who are well to do will still have the upper hand because they can most times buy their way even when they just came in. This is definitely one good reason why this idea, though thoughtful might not really be helpful. This might lead to many people suffering in other aspects of their lives as they might end up in jail for their noncompliance.

A better way forward in this is that, the government can make provisions for reduced health care check ups at different places at a subsidized rate and encourage people to make use of the opportunity. When the health check up is less expensive and closer to those that need it, they will be more encouraged to grab the opportunity. And also, the focus should be more on providing standard health care facilities at a lower cost so people can be willing to voluntarily go for their health check ups at least once in a year.

Thanks for reading through. ❤️

Hey there, love. As you mentioned, the reason behind mandatory medical checkups is from a place of care and good intentions. After all, it is all for the benefit of the people, right? They get to enjoy living a healthy life. However, just because it is from a place of good intention doesn't make it a good idea.

I agree with you that forcing people to go for medical checkups is an infringement on their rights. Also, what if they don’t have the resources to do that. Imagine getting jailed or fined because you don’t have the money to go for checkups!

Also, as you mentioned, forcing people to go for medical checkups would lead to overpopulation. Here in our country, not so many hospitals can handle that kind of pressure.

While this system is positive, the approach is flawed.

Thanks for sharing, love.

You’re so brilliant, this man. 🤭
You literally just summarized my post with this comment. Well said, love.

The flawed approach can also be managed and I hope people will make effort to do these themselves so this kind of mind won’t be there.

Thanks for your thoughtful input, darling. ❤️

If you have ever been to a government hospital to see someone there, you will hate to go to the hospital. You can hardly see the doctor when you want. People sometimes over crowd the place. This is one big problem we will have with the system of compulsory check-up.
Thanks for sharing

Exactly, mama. You have said well.
Not that people don’t really want to go for these check ups. They are just scared of the disappointment in so many areas.

Thanks for your contribution, Ma. ❤️

Truly, compulsory checkup should be required but not mandatory. Some people can be so lazy even when it comes to their health and many people have died just because they did not do check up.
I know of a man that has been complaining of being ill but refuse to go to the hospital for checkup because he can still work and move around.
He went for a party and slumped, that was the end. This happened some weeks ago.

But in the other hand, will all these check up be free, won’t it put financial pressure on some people. There are so many things to put in place if they want to make this compulsory and currently we don’t have the capacity and capability to make that visible or possible.

That’s just it o. Making something as this compulsory will even cause more death than not going for check ups.

There is much to do and more of that comes from convincing and not forcing. People just need to be convinced both by words and what they see. Those who go for med checks early enough still lose their lives due to lack of facilities and professional doctors.

Thanks for your contribution, big Fash. 🥰
