HISTORY’S WISDOM AND SIGNIFICANCE
Telling the story and knowing the story of what has happened before now is something that I believe is necessary. The truth is, as the human world continues to evolve, we will find out that our ancestors have made some discoveries and also some mistakes that if we don’t know about them, we will likely make the same mistakes and take some discoveries for granted. Life in itself is a phase and with every passing phase, documenting what has happened down for those who are yet to come is vital as that will help those who are coming before them know about some certain difficulties they encountered and avoid having the same experience but still be able to make a good decision.
Knowing the history of things and people helps us to understand, appreciate and trust in them better. It is a lot easy to believe in something that has an history than something that is based solely on assumptions. When we are sure that a certain thing has happened before, it gives us the courage to know that it is possible for it to happen again or at least be assured that it is possible. There are so many ways history can be taught to the new generation but then, the most effective way will be when it is taught in schools.
Adding history to school curriculum will give students the advantage in so many areas of their lives. As they say, information is power, the more a person knows about something, they better they understand and know how to deal with it. Teaching our children or rather, telling our students the story of things that has happened before them will help them appreciate some advice better and also guide them in making better choices. A lot of persons believe that it is better to make mistakes and learn from it but then, the truth is, you might not be fortunate enough to learn from your own mistakes.
Knowing of someone who has made a similar mistake before, will guide us to know the consequences of doing some certain things and because of that, we will save ourselves from having similar fate as the one who had that experience. Knowing the why about things, people, traditions and so on, will guide us in knowing how to appreciate them better and also help us know their mistakes. Without the knowledge of what has happened before, we are most likely to repeat the same mistakes and that means there will be little or no changes.
Although, I have come across some people that would always prefer to have the experience for themselves rather than being told what the experience will be like and I think that is totally fine too because it will help form more guidance for those who are willing to learn. In history, there are mostly people who go through so much just for others to learn because they also failed to learn from the experiences of others and that is how it is always going to be. Some of us are always too curious that we fine it hard to just learn from others, instead we choose to take the lead so others can learn from us and that is very needed when it comes to history.
I’m emphasizing more on the mistakes because that is where our lessons lie as people learning from history. Schools should reconsider making history a core subject again as that will help us do better in so many ways. Nowadays, we can see that most children do not have any idea of their history or even the history of the country they live in and that will definitely limit them in some ways. The fact is, when those children are in the midst of their mates that know the history of their country and even beyond, they can’t help but feel timid and vulnerable.
So to help our coming generation, schools should make the learning of history more fun and exciting so more students can enjoy learning about what has happened before them and use that knowledge to their own advantage in the future. I have always been a fan of learning history but for the fact that it was not compulsory, I didn’t explore too deeply and that was how I gradually lost interest in it. And that has kept me in the unknown for too long now. And I know this is also the case for some other persons too.
Schools will be doing the country a great favor if they make history a priority in the curriculum. Students might not appreciate it now, but they will appreciate it with time. I have been there and I know how it feels when you don’t have an idea about what has happened before, trust me, it makes you feel uneasy, even more when you find out that you are the only one in the unknown. Personally, I will always encourage people to learn about their history, whether or not it is part of their school curriculum.
History is very important; learning about the past is one thing I love the most. I feel like such things are very necessary, knowing about our roots and origin, how things are the way they are.
History should remain in the curriculum of every school.
Exactly! I totally agree with you too dear
Thank you 🤗
That's exactly what I like to say, because when we know our past, we can avoid certain mistakes in the future. History is fundamental to human knowledge.
Yeah, taking away history from school curricula is like taking away our background.
Thank you for your contribution 🤗
