AN UNFORGETTABLE KITCHEN MISHAP

It took me some minutes to figure out what was funny or strange to write about and now that I finally remembered one experience, I had to even laugh at myself, lol. Anyways, this is my entry for the Neoxianprompts, do well to check it out.

So one strange experience I’ve had among others was when I was still a little girl. Back then, my siblings and I lived with just my dad so we had to learn how to do most things by ourselves so we don’t make the burden too much on my dad. Personally, I have always enjoyed learning new things especially when I know it is of use to myself and others. My dad was a great cook yeah, so I always tried as much as possible to wake up when ever I see he was already up.

My dad normally wakes up very early to wash our clothes, fetch water and make breakfast so we don’t go late to school. Then I was still little but I knew my dad needed assistance but there wasn’t much I could do so most times I’d just seat outside with him talking about anything that came to my mind and also asked him some questions. Sometimes I successfully made him laugh and it was always nice to see him laugh, hehe.

After many days and weeks of watching my dad do these things, I decided to start doing them and also teaching my siblings too. So before dad would get back from work, we would fetch water, put the house in order and even wash our school uniforms. We did literally everything before dad got back one day and I can remember how happy and proud he was by what we’ve done. Seeing how happy he was, I was motivated to go further. This time, I decided to cook something so when my dad returned he would have something to eat.

I made up my mind to prepare rice with palm oil. That day, we had light at home so I decided to make use of our electric stove. It was fast and reliable so I didn’t think twice about it. I parboiled the rice and when it was time for me to wash it, I tried removing the pot from the stove but I got slammed at my back. I was shocked, I turned around and yelled at my brother for doing that but he said he didn’t do anything to me. Well, I asked him not to try it again and I went back to trying to remove the pot from the stove.

My second attempt, I got slammed again and now I was already getting furious. But this time my brother still denied the fact that he wasn’t the one who slammed me at my back. In my furious state, I tried again and this time it happened again and at this point I still thought it was my brother but luckily for him, my neighbor noticed what has happened and told me to always turn off the electric stove before taking off the pot. I laughed so hard for some time and I kept thanking my God that I didn’t try to get back at my brother.

All these while, what I felt was an electric shock and not a slam. I forgot that I was making use of an electric stove and I didn’t pay attention to details. If not for my neighbor, I wonder what would have happened to me. For the fact that I thought it was my brother hitting me all these while was the strangest part. It was only when I turned off the electric cooker I was able to remove the pot.

Well, in the end I finished cooking and everyone enjoyed the food, even my dad, although he said he would have enjoyed it more if I had added more onions to it, hehe.

Thank you for stopping by ❤️.

You have done a great job and I appreciate it.
Fortunately nothing serious happened. It was a risky situation.
So, staying careful is very necessary.

Hahaha I can only imagine what's going on in your mind why your brother was continuously denying that he didn't slap you.

But then grateful a neighbour noticed and quickly let you know before the electricity drain all your blood.

Being so attentive and helpful at a young age is admirable. Your father must have been proud of you and you of yourself. Learning to cook or handle fire can be dangerous for children however. Was the stove faulty hence causing you to get an electric shock when you remove the pot?
It is good that you did nothing to your brother.

The stove wasn’t faulty, I was using my wet hands to get it off and I was standing in between the stove and where I plugged it to the wall, I guess this was the reason.

And yes, I’m so glad I didn’t do my brother anything.

Thank you so much for your comment, it’s highly appreciated ❤️

I love the fact that you had the desire to assist Dad. You must be a thoughtful child and I know Dad will love you more for that.
For you to continuously get slammed thinking it's ur brother was funny...glad the neighbor stepped in
..I am thinking that maybe the electric stove is faulty or something

Thank you mama 🤗.

Well the stove wasn’t faulty, I didn’t obey the simple laws of physics that’s why 😂. I had wet hands and the stove was still on 🤦🏾‍♀️
