ACKNOWLEDGING THE HUMAN FACTOR

Having a good knowledge of one’s devices especially our phones and computers is very vital as that is the first step to protecting our data on the internet and even everywhere sometimes. Our devices are mini robots that only does what they are programmed to do so the way we handle them and use them will determine to a great degree how they can protect us from cyber attacks and hackers. There are so many ways we can keep our data safe on our phones and computers but then, that does not mean we are going to be totally free from hackers.

Some people are trained to hack into codes and do whatever they want to do even though they are afar of. I’ve heard from a friend how his account got hacked just by clicking on a phishing link. Sometimes we become vulnerable to these attacks because we become too lazy to read what we see or maybe we are just to optimistic or even just a carefree movement of our hands. My friend according to him was so devastated that he almost gave up on everything because it cost him all his life savings. The only way he was able to cope with what had happen was thanks to the people around him.

They supported him in every little way they could and that was able to motivate him to start all over. Trust me, starting all over is never easy and only few people get to pass their previous level because it is really hard to just stop thinking of all that you have been able to accomplish for years by just clicking on a phishing link that was obviously from an hacker all because you were too tired to go through it. All he wanted was just go and see what was there and come back as most of us might also do but that cost him a whole lot.

It took a very long time and I think even till now he is still trying to recover from that experience. The true is I would have also fallen for something similar because I never knew that clicking on a link abd getting one’s account hacked was even possible until he shared his story. And that is why I always love emphasizing the importance of having knowledge of at least everything no matter how little it is. The other person will excel better than you because of something he knows that you don’t. I learned that it is always good to read the information on anything that might pop up on our screen before acknowledging it.

Assumptions can cost us a fortune so we should be careful to avoid it at all cost. Now, as long as I have my doubts of something, I either let it go or ask questions if I’m interested in it than just chose to assume what it is. I’m still a victim of assumptions though but it has improved considerably. From my friend, I’ve learned the importance of sharing our experiences with others so they don’t make the same mistakes like us. It is always hard to make ourselves vulnerable by sharing some of our experiences but it is definitely going to save someone.

Anyways, we should still be careful how we share these experiences so it doesn’t affect us in anyway negative. Cybersecurity is essential but know that sometimes as humans we let our guards down and that might just cost us a lot so it is always best to prepared for the worst even as we hope for the best.

This is my response to the Hivelearners topic on ”CYBERSECURITY”.

Yeah, the quick urge to click and not ready to read first, always hit hard and that's one of the major mistakes of people that got scammed.
Normally there's no harm in reading and asking questions when one does not understand what the link or site is saying, but we are always in a rush.

One really need to be careful with our devices because loads of evil people are out there trying to gain access to not just our account, but information and resources.

It's so unfortunate your friend had to fall victim of such, I know how devastating that will be on her.

In truth sharing experience with one another will help reduce the rate at which people fall victims of such going forward.

Really oo, they are always out there ready to use every chance they get to access people’s privacy and stuffs.

I just hope that we try to take our time and not rush into everything and anything

Having basic knowledge of how hackers operate can also help, especially the social aspect of convincing one of a too good to be true offers. Sometimes, it's better to triple check just to make sure :)

Omo those guys involved into hacking are just too tricky such that no matter how careful one can be, they still have their way. I have also fallen into their hands on two occasions and it was like a dream upon how careful I thought I was, hehe

A lot of people have fallen victims to hackers because they were being too click-happy instead of reading carefully. It once happened to me, and I have still not forgotten that unfortunate experience.

When it comes to clicking any link that pops up, I'm usually very careful. Few days ago my elder sister shared how she almost became a victim. The scammer called her requesting that she calls out the OTP that was sent to her for confirmation for a zoom meeting, and the sad thing is that it was from a woman. I've had a lot such calls but I'm smarter than them. We need to protect our devices from cyber crime at all cost.
