Wednesday Walk to see the Cherry Blossoms in The Meadows in Edinburgh
Its one of our fav times of year here in Edinburgh - when the cherry blossoms come into bloom in The Meadows.
The Meadows is a large park in Edinburgh situated close to the University of Edinburgh, just south of the city centre. It has a ton of cherry blossom trees which hit peak bloom fairly late in April. Tonight was the night, so we all went of to see them after dinner.
You can find cherry blossoms all over Edinburgh, and interestingly they come into peak blossom at different times across the city ranging over Mid-March to late April.
The biggest concentration of them is in The Meadows, so we will always aim to try and go and see them before they pass their peak. I like the pic above because you can see the shadows of the three of us in the bottom left hand corner (me in the middle with my wife and daughter) !
We got to the park just as we were getting towards sunset. The sun was getting low in the sky and casting some nice long shadows from the trees.
The park has a number of paths that zig-zag back and fourth across it - and it is these paths that are lined with the cherry blossoms.
The pic above is a great example of one of these paths. Either side are large areas of park grass which get really busy with students from the university - they have their various clubs and activities going on, and its really great to see - it feels very alive. Plus lots of other people were there to see the cherry blossoms too.
We quite enjoyed walking around taking in the blooms, and having a little family time together. Our daughter starts her 3rd year high school exams tomorrow, so I think she was glad to get a break from studying !
There was a pretty large contrail streaking right across the sky while we were there which was interesting. This week I saw a video on Instagram from a professional photographer who said you should never have more than a third of your photo just showing the sky - I think I was happier when I didnt know that ! Oh dear.
The light was quite variable so it was proving hard to get some good pics.
But we had a good 30mins or so cross-crossing the park taking them all in.
There was actually quite a cold wind as well, and once the sun disappeared we were really starting to feel it, so we didnt hang around too long.
It certainly was lovely to see them all, and I'm really glad we made the effort to get out and see them ! Thats my wednesday walk for this week - all the best from Scotland !
