Wednesday Walk - evening stroll along the river bank picking up litter

I made it out for a nice evening walk along the river bank tonight. I was keen to relax and destress after what has been a busy week so far, and a nice relaxing walk sounded perfect.

It was a nice enough evening, with a bit of a cold wind (we actually had a shower of hail stones here today in Edinburgh !).

One thing I noticed on tonights walk is that the rhododendrons are out in bloom. They are not a native species to the UK, having been brought here by botanists and plant collectors in previous centuries from East Asia, however they are quite prevalent around Scotland. I do love their purple flowers.

The sun was making the odd appearance from behind the clouds.

I made my way up to this old bridge which cuts over the river.

The bridge is quite high and gives nice views into the river gorge below.

And thats the view over the other side.

I walked further up the river path and came across a load of feathers. They look like seagull feathers to me, and it looks like one of the poor birds has come to a sticky end with a predator (probably a cat or a fox would be my guess) !

I took a wee seat down by the river bank for a few minutes half way through the walk, just to take in the scenery.

I was quite impressed by the nice reflections in the water.

On the way back I took a parallel path that runs alongside the farmers fields just for a change of scene. Their crops seem to be coming along fine (dont ask me what they are !).

This large old tree had fallen over part way along, revealing quite a large root structure.

As I was walking along I started picking up rubbish. I found this empty pringles can in the edge of the farmers crops, and didnt want it to get picked up by the harvesting machine, so grabbed it and then filled it with other rubbish as I walked along. That was it before it got put in the bin back at the car park = my good deed for the day !

I have to say I enjoyed the walk, and felt all the better for it. That wraps up my wednesday walk for this week.

All the best from Scotland !!!

Taking a stroll by the river is a very great way to relax. It's nice to see the rhododendrons in bloom wow, even though they're not native. And great job for cleaning up the litter too 🥰

Nature thanks you for your stewardship! What a beautiful walk. I also like that you know what the flowers are. I would have just said this nice purple thing here...
