Wednesday Walk - Along the river at Cammo
I went for a nice evening walk last night in a place called Cammo on the edge of Edinburgh. I went there for the first time last night, and it takes me further up a river walk that I do regularly.
I started the walk about about 8pm so it was getting close to sunset and as a result we were already starting to get some nice colours in the sky. I was pretty lucky to catch quite a nice reflection in the river with the shot above.
When I first got there, the sun was shinning nicely on this field that runs adjacent to the riverside path. Its recently been harvested by the farmer, hence the nice straight lines you can see there.
As a got further along the path I started seeing more and more giant hogweed. Its a non-native species of plant here and is actually dangerous. Its sap can cause burns on your skin. Its a little like getting acid on you, but only burns you in sunlight ! Weird !!! However, I actually find them quite pretty, because they are huge, and dwarf anything else we have - they can grown upto 5m tall !
Thats another view of them (these pics were not great as they were in awkward parts of the river bank). I dont normally see them as frequently as this. Because they are non-native to the UK, and dangerous, they often get eradicated. I think I was only seeing more of them because I went so far along the path that isnt frequented that much.
I kept going until about dusk, and captured this pic before turning around to make my way back - dark and moody !
I actually had an accident early on in the walk. A broken branch was hanging down from a tree over the path, with the broken end of it pointing directly towards me in a shaded part of the path. I walked straight into it and it cut my face ! Not terrible, but 2 fairly long scratches. My glasses sort of hide the cuts, but when I'm working, I frequently have to remove them depending on what I'm looking at. My workmates took the mick out of me all day long for it - and a few of them even started calling me scarface ! It was all in good fun, and the scratches will be gone in a few days, but its a good reminder to be careful on a forest walk !
Even despite the minor injury, I had a nice walk. I covered about 3 miles, so got some good exercise, and also enjoyed the scenery and sunset - so it was still a win in my book !
Thats my wednesday walk for this week - all the best from Scotland !
Oh no… sorry to hear you walked into the branch and it cut you. Hope it heals quickly @hoosie it was a lovely walk though… late at night in dusk, seeing the colours change.
I know those plants and have seen them in many other places. They are indeed dangerous.
Have a wonderful evening 👋🏻😊

Wow! You captured some beautiful colours, indeed.
Seeing this makes me miss life on the canals here in the UK:)))
so sorry to hear about the accident, sounds like your workmates are like the ones I used to have any excuse or chance give each other a hard time
Love all the photos but that first one WOW love it
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
I just learned about such dangerous plant. In my place, you only have to watch out for thorny plants on your walk but never heard something that can burn your skin. Yeah right, you should take care on your walk next time.
You really have to be watchful when having a walk in the forest, at least you learned a lesson on that walk.
Anyways, i love the last photo, it's my favorite on these post ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ
Are you sure it was a branch and not some misty creatures coming out in the dark? :)
A lovely walk though!!
So sorry about your injury though, but I'm glad you had a refreshing walk.
I've heard of that hogweed before. It sounds like really nasty stuff! This looks like it was a quite beautiful walk for you. We have had some really nice weather lately, so I have been trying to be outside more than I was most of the summer. It's been wonderful.
