The cygnets in our local park have hatched - very excited !

We've been going down to our local park every now and again as a pair of swans have been nesting, and we keep checking to see if their eggs have hatched - and today they had !

It was really cool - they are still quite small so were riding around on their mums back, rather than going in the water themselves ! Atleast I assume it was the mother.

The male was also there making sure they were protected.

We've lived near this park for about 2-3 years now, and I assume it is the same pair that is there each year. It has a lovely big pond - which the swans share with seagulls, coots and ducks.

The photo above was taken back on the 1st of May, and at that point the swans were still nesting - so it was really nice to see them finally hatched.

We went down weekly to see them last year, and its amazing how quickly they grow. Plus they are the star of the show, getting a lot of onlookers !

I've only ever seen one pair of swans on this pond.

It was hard to tell how many cygnets there were - maybe 4 or 5. We'll be heading back with a better camera another night, so hopefully we'll find out then.

We were also getting some nice reflections on the pond, and some wild flowers were also starting to come out in the park too.

And then one other nice surprise. Next door to the park is a rugby ground, and during covid lockdown when you were only allowed to eat and drink outside here in Scotland, they opened up a sort of outside fair, with drink and food stalls and live music. Well it must have been a success, because they have set it up again !

So we will be taking advantage of that, and not having to worry about covid this time.
