London Landmarks - taking in the sights in London back in Summer - what a fantastic city !
We managed a trip to London back in June for a few days, and I was just looking back at our photos from it and all of the sights we managed to take in. I thought I'd share some of my favs here - it was a complete architecture-fest for me - lots of indulgence !!!
Above is the St Pancras Hotel, an absolute stunner of a building dating from 1873. It featured in one of the Harry Potter films, at the start where they have the flying car - and there used to be one like it parked outside. My wife always says she wants us to stay in this hotel when we come to London, but its out of our price range (but quite a lot !!!).
Above is Cleopatra's needle, which is down on the banks of the Thames. It says it was gifted to the UK by Egypt (so not plundered like tons of other stuff we have here).
Leadenhall market (above) was a particular favourite from the trip. We had never been there before, and it was stunning. Again, it featured in the Harry potter films - part of the diagonally scenes !
The British museum (above) was another first on this trip. We met my brother and his family there for high tea, which was lovely. The internal courtyard now encased under this immense glass roof is just stunning !! I think the architect was Norman Foster.
And the pic above has three landmarks in it ! The coloured iron work in the foreground is from Tower Bridge, then you have the Tower of London in the Middle, and the shard at the back !
And above is another multi-view - HMS Belfast on the Thames, with the city of London in the background.
And another multi-view above - The millenium bridge, the London Eye (left) and Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament on the right.
And sticking with multi-views (above) - again we have the Shard on the left, the Oxo tower just gets a look in on the right just above the red building and then the beautiful glass structure in the middle is One Blackfriars - also known as the Vase !
Above is City Hall, also by Norman Foster.
And above we have Trafalgar Square with the National Gallery behind it.
And above is another first for us on that trip - Westminster Cathedral - an absolutely stunning Byzantine inspire building - it really was fantastic inside and out. I hadnt even heard of it before, and we just stumbled upon it while wandering around -what a find !
The Houses of Parliament were getting a makeover while we were there - such a stunning gothic building though.
And Westminster Abbey (above) was also fantastic.
And St Paul's Cathedral above.
I was just in heaven taking in all the architecture - I could just wander around London all day long, which is pretty much what we did for the three days - its a pity that my wife and daughter had to put up with it too ! To be fair they really enjoyed it too ! London is always worth the visit, and I cant wait to go back !!!!

I love the travalga sqare. I worked there as a chef about 100 Meter next to the place in 1999/2000. But most of the time, I did not have such a good weather. Most of the time (12 month) it was cloudy. !LOL

That would be a nice place to work. We were quite lucky with the weather when we were there - but you would expect that in June !

You saw so much during your visit to London, and it's so lovely to see so many parts of it again, I do miss it.
Aye, we pounded the streets to take in the sights - our poor daughter was complaining quite a lot !!!!
