A sunny sunday at Loch Morlich at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains by Aviemore

We'd been visiting my dad in Inverness this weekend, and stayed over at Aviemore on the saturday evening. On Sunday morning we took a quick drive up to Loch Morlich, and it was stunning.

The loch (scottish word for a lake) is inland, and characterised by a lovely sandy beach ! I'm fairly sure its a natural beach , as it is too big to have been shipped in. The loch sits at the foot of the Cairngorm mountains, which makes the views from the shore pretty impressive !

The loch is surrounded by a beautiful forest, of Scots Pine (I think), and has lovely tracks to follow all around.

The loch is quite popular for water sports, and it has a sports centre at one end where you can hire equipment and get lessons on just about anything water sport related.

All of these paddle boards were sat waiting at the lochs edge - I wonder what the collective name for a group of paddle boards is ? A knee breaker maybe ?

It was a beautiful sunny day, and the water was very clear as can be seen above !

It was still pretty early when we got there and it had been raining, so it wasnt that busy yet. It can get quite packed at the weekend.

I quite liked the tree we found above - the pattern in the wood was quite impressive !

And even though it was quite sunny, it was still threatening to rain, and the clouds were making for some quite dramatic scenes.

We had a nice wander around the paths, which were fairly busy, as there is a large campsite right there, and the car park was fairly busy too. But its still large enough with loads of paths that it does not seem crowded.

And there were even a few brave souls in swimming. It must have been pretty cold !

We were very glad that we stopped for a wander. We enjoyed the fresh air, and we even did our good deed for the day and picked up some litter from the beach and paths. What a lovely start to the day !
