The fourth appeareance of a magician type

I am continuing to imagine what the final magician image may look like for the tarot card seires that I am putting together. These images were generated with MidJourney prior to my subscription lapsing, and now I am going to shortlist them to hopefully have one final image that I can tweak further to a final outcome.

I'll get there eventually, it is just going to take some time, unless of course I discover that one of these images is perfect out of the blocks. I generated way too many images as a whole for this overaching Tarot series, and the bad news is there's even more images for some of the other characters than there were for the magician.

This means that I will be on this topic and series of culling for quite some time until I am done. This is frustrating because my hunger to create new things is always unfilled, while I try to work through a backlog. It is just like my video game collection, in a way.

The only way I can tackle it is one by one. Slowly, methodically.

Here is what I will be going through in today's post:

These are the three that I thought I liked the most:

The pose in the above image is excellent, but that is about all. The altar is depicted well, and the flowers in the foreground are interesting, but undefined. Overall it isn't a very coherent image when viewed at large, which makes it a difficult one to work with long term, as it would require lots of additional work to get to a more usable state.

This next one is a reccuring theme of candles. I like the expression, the altar, and the floral details (as well as the dress!) but there's not enough here to talk about in terms of being magical, or a magician. It's a beautiful image in its own right, but doesn't fit into the theme. This is the problem with generative art. You get amazing stuff, then need to think about whether it was indeed your intent, or merely a lucky dice roll, and should it be time to now fit your intent to the bounds of that dice roll?

The answer should always be no. Never sacrifice your artistic vision.

Speaking of vision, here is a mighty fine one. Again, the candles appear to vanish into the background, and I think this is just an upscaled version of an image I explored in one of the last posts on this topic. The outfit is interesting, and the hand is gripping the candle on the left hand side of flame in a coherent and realistic rendering. This could be one for the final, final short list; perhaps.

But then, there's this image.

The way in which the body curves, and the expression makes the character look a though they're deep in thought. The window in the background, again frames their face. The dress straps melting down into a necklace of sorts is an interesting feature, and the blue and gold tones in the purple dress as it falls to the feet of the character give it an interesting overall mood. She's even standing on what looks to be a box; adding to the allure and mystery of this composition. I really like it; and it is a strong contender.

Sometimes, you might just be able to put a label on a thing that isn't quite the thing, and have it work, but there's still more images to go through.

The next post will probably feature double the images for me to get through, owing to the fact that many will be upscales, and I feel as though I myself will go mad if I don't get it done anytime soon. I have to, because I want to see what I select as the final image probably as much as my audience of two or three viewers want to see it, right?
