"Regret" and "remorse" are two utterly useless and exhausting words.
Regret" and "remorse" are two words that serve no real purpose and should be avoided at all costs. Therefore, we should make every effort to eliminate these words from both our vocabulary and our lives.
These two concepts are often interconnected. Regret often leads to remorse, or they can occur simultaneously. Let’s explore their meanings separately.
Regret refers to a feeling that arises when we reflect on something we did, said, thought, or decided at the time, believing it was right, only to later realize, “Oh, that wasn't what I thought, how foolish of me!” It can happen when we realize something on our own or when someone else reveals the truth, making us think, “What a shame,” and feel disappointed.
Remorse, on the other hand, can be a temporary aversion to a person or thing. It can also extend over a period or even a lifetime, leading to a complete loss of faith in society or similar entities, sometimes to the point of giving up entirely.
The intensity and duration of this aversion or sense of giving up, as well as the emotional distress it causes, vary depending on the person and how significantly the experience impacts their life. Factors like age, intelligence, education, social sensitivity, past experiences, emotional stability, and the reactions of close ones all influence a person's capacity to handle these feelings.
In today's world, common factors leading to general remorse are plentiful. That's why we must strive to quickly shift toward positive thinking and move past these feelings. After all, when someone makes a decision, they do so with the best intentions at the time. So, what's the point of dwelling on it later?
Anyone's decisions made in youth may be driven more by emotion than intellect, but as we age, our practical intelligence grows, allowing us to make more mature choices.
If we can avoid being burdened by human nature, it's worth it, as today everything seems to be determined by the emotions of those in power. We live in a society that has turned its back on all values, steeped in corruption.
I hope that this writing sparks even a small sense of understanding in anyone who reads it and may, at some moment, help them escape from remorse or regret.
