Hello dear hive friends.

Good morning, dear Hive friends. How is everyone? I hope you are all doing well.

Last Sunday was a relaxing day. We decided to finish our work at home and then visit a temple in the evening. This ancient Buddhist temple is located in a very beautiful village and is named Yatagala Purana Rajamaha Viharaya. It is about 8 km away from Galle city, where we live. The temple can be accessed via the Galle to Matara road and the Galle to Akurassa road.

Nestled in the greenery of our village, the ancient Rajamaha Temple of Yatagala stands as an enduring testament to Sri Lanka's rich spiritual heritage, offering a sense of calm and tranquility.

The Yatagala Purana Rajamaha Vihara, more than 2,300 years old, is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. Its history is rich with legends and dates back to the reign of King Devanampiyatissa, who was instrumental in spreading Buddhism on the island. The ancient stones here provide natural shelter, and the footings at the entrance are also made from the same soil, reflecting a unique design.

Upon entering the temple grounds, visitors are greeted with the awe-inspiring sight of ancient rock formations and intricate carvings adorning the temple structures. The main shrine chamber, located inside a rock cave, radiates sacredness and reverence. Inside, a golden-robed reclining Buddha statue commands attention. A symbol of peace and enlightenment, this statue is considered one of the oldest in the region. The paintings and designs there are indescribably beautiful and amazing creations.

The temple complex also consists of an impressive collection of frescoes and murals depicting various scenes from the life of the Buddha. These exquisite paintings, some dating back to the Kandy period, illustrate Sri Lanka's rich artistic heritage. These pictures tell a story

Its history is full of legends, and the name of the temple, "Yatagala," translates to "beauty made of rocks." This name, inherited from nature, along with the secrets hidden under the high granite rocks, adds to the temple's mysterious atmosphere.
