Manali-Leh Highway : Temples, Monasteries, and Breathtaking Landscapes of Lahaul Valley
This is the fifth post in the Manali Leh series. In previous posts you read about Shepards, Changpa Tribe and Himalayan Rickshaw Run. Today I am going to present the beauty of 'Lahaul Valley' in front of you. Hope you like this valley.
The Manali Leh highway
Himachal Pradesh is located in the north of India, which is also known as Devbhoomi, Lahaul Valley is located in the north of Himachal. The average height of Lahaul is 3000 meters and this valley starts by crossing Manali. Before 2022, this valley used to be cut off from the whole world in winter, but now after the tunnel is made, Lahaul can be reached even in winter. By the way, I have never been to Lahaul in winter.
Lahaul starts from Kunjam Pass and extends till Baralacha Pass, Kunjam Pass, Baralacha Pass and Rohtang Pass are present in this valley. Ever since the tunnel has connected this valley with Manali, since then this valley has become a center of attraction for tourists. When Covid-19 ended in 2022, tourists reached Lahaul Valley like a storm. According to government statistics, in the year 2022, about 20 lakh tourists visited Lahaul.
Tourists visit Khoksar village, Tindi, Udaipur, Keylong village, Jispa, Darcha, Deepak Tal, Suraj Tal and Baralachala Pass in Lahaul Valley. Hindus and Buddhists live together in Lahaul Valley, there are very famous temples and monasteries like Trilokinath Temple and Guru Ghantal Monastery etc. This information is about Lahaul Valley.
Frozen Deepak lake
In the photos of this post, you will see the frozen Chandra river, you can see the sunset on the snowy mountains behind Keylong village. Deepak Lake, which is located at an altitude of 4400 meters above sea level, can be seen in the photo that Deepak Lake is half frozen with ice. The reflection of the mountains on the blue water is so wonderful that it gives goosebumps just by looking at it.
We were going to Leh in our car and when we started having back pain after sitting for 6 hours, we took a break and clicked a wonderful photo of our friend's car. Despite being so high, Lahaul is a very suitable place for farming. Here potatoes, peas, okra, carrots, radish, cabbage and apples are cultivated in large quantities. You can see Lahauli farming in the photos. By the way, the weather is so cold here that only 5-6 months are left with the local people for farming. In this short time, people collect income for themselves, which is used to collect ration for winters.
In the photos you can see the famous waterfall of Lahaul valley. The name of this waterfall is Sissu waterfall and its height is about 200 feet. It is a center of attraction for tourists and people come here for this waterfall, Sissu lake and camping. The approach to Baralacha Pass starts from Jingjing Bar, and whenever we go towards Baralacha Pass, snow starts from here itself. In the photos you can see the snow covered highway, mountains, lake and temple.
Baralacha pass is such a pass of this highway where black ice gets frozen on the road as soon as a little snow falls, due to which there is a long jam here. Baralacha pass is the only pass where maximum number of accidents happen. Earlier the road here was very narrow due to which most of the trucks used to fall into the ditch.
So this was the fifth post of Manali Leh series in which I showed you a famous valley of Himachal Pradesh. If you liked the post then don't do anything just see the photo and bring a beautiful smile on your face.

oh sorry to hear that the photos might not be loading due to slow internet connection
Beautiful place! How much did they roundtrip cost? I wanted to go these places after watching that Highway movie from Bollywood. Anyway, trips like this will bring good memories as time goes by.
Himalaya in India is not expensive at all. You can travel from Manali to Leh Highway in 10 days, which will cost you around 10,000 INR. You must visit, and I bet Himalaya will not disappoint you at all.
I'm also from India my bro. I'll probably do something like this with my friends in the future. 10k is manageable I suppose. Is that just travel expenses?
Sorry bro I didn't know yes it is travel expenses and it is with very basic facilities.
Totally dreamy
a magical world
You captured nature beautifully. I'm especially intrigued by that tall waterfall in the middle of the mountains.
The landscapes of Himalayas are such a amazing pleasant to eyes.
