Wednesday Walk Challenge : Théâtre de Verdure (Parc Lafontaine), Montreal

For this Wednesday Walk Challenge, I decided to try the "method" of @tattoodjay, organizer of the challenge, i.e. to take photos very early in the morning. It's true that colors and shadows are more beautiful in the early hours. But I don't yet have his talent for taking beautiful photos, but maybe it's also my camera (an old Sony NEX-5N). It must be my camera 😅. For this session, I'm off to Parc Lafontaine in Montreal, to take a few photos of the Théâtre de Verdure (Open-air theater).

I arrived at Parc Lafontaine via Avenue du Parc, not very busy in the early morning apart from a few joggers. The entrance to the Théâtre de Verdure, an open-air amphitheatre in the middle of the park. It operates mainly during fine weather, with musical and theatrical performances often free of charge.

The Theatre was founded in 1956 (source: Wikipedia). When I discovered this venue in early 2010, it was in poor condition and very little used. That's why, starting in 2014, major renovations were carried out until 2022. This is only its second season in its new form.

I thought I had a photo of the old structure, but I couldn't find anything on my hard drive. Being too curious, I went looking for some period photos of the Theatre.

The new structure is the work of architectural firm Lemay. The space is now open, with no surrounding grids. A truly beautiful structure that can accommodate 2,500 people, with a backdrop that opens up so that Parc Lafontaine can also serve as a backdrop for performances.

We walk around the artificial lake to see the Theatre from the outside. I enjoy the reflections of the trees on the water. It's true that the colors are really more beautiful early in the morning. And what's more, with autumn, the trees have taken on new colors, from green to red to yellow.

As the lake hasn't yet been drained for the winter, it's still nice to walk around. Because when the water's gone and the snow's not here yet, it's a bit more sad.

But here, with the colors, it's really beautiful. My small-format photos are fine, but don't zoom in, everything's a bit blurry. I'd need a tripod to be more stable. But I'm happy with the result for a first time.

And the Park fountain, which hasn't worked for a few years.

I hope you enjoy this little stroll to Parc Lafontaine to discover the Théâtre de Verdure. I really enjoyed doing this photo shoot early in the morning to take advantage of the colors. Still some training to take better photos, but cool experience. Happy Wednesday Walk Challenge to all.

It's great to have this park near my home, perfect for sports, with soccer fields, baseball, tennis courts, beach volleyball, petanque... and in winter the lower part of the lake is transformed into a free ice rink. So cool.
Thanks for the tokens

The camera may be a bit old but the photos are just as good. You have a very good eye for photography my friend.

what a beautiful park, and I think you did great taking photos in low light be it early morning or at night is a challenge for sure

I use a tripod for my early morning walks and take a lot of long exposure shots

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)

Yes, a tripod is really necessary for long exposures... I'm not equipped yet but I enjoyed the experience, especially enjoying the park almost alone 😀
Have a great day too

if you dont have a tripod just resting your camera or phone on a fence or something will give more stability

Nice shots of the Théâtre de Verdure 👍 I think the photos of the theatre both the outside shot and shots of the back of the stage over the lake are the best ones. Very cool historical shots to contrast with the remodel. I love a good remodel that brings back a historic building.

Yes, in the post, the photos look good, but in full screen it's a different matter, it's quite blurry. But it's a cool experience to go and take photos early in the morning, so you can enjoy the place almost on your own 😀
