Wednesday Walk Challenge : Autumn walk in Morin-Heights (Quebec)

avatar

For this Wednesday Walk Challenge hosted by @tattoodjay, I propose a walk through the small town of Morin-Heights in the Laurentians in Quebec. As in Canada, last weekend was Thanksgiving, with Monday off. We headed out for a few days of adventure to enjoy the beautiful autumn colors.

But first, here are two maps to show you where Morin-Heights is located. It's an hour's drive from Montreal (if there's no traffic, last Saturday morning it took twice as long 😤) on the road to Mont-Tremblant.

Morin-Heights is a small town of just under 5,000 inhabitants in the Pays-d'en-Haut (Upper Country) region. It's a beautiful part of Quebec, all year round, with a ski resort in winter. I'll have to try those slopes this winter.

We had a cottage on the outskirts of Morin-Heights with a superb view of a small lake. What a pleasure to wake up to such a beautiful view. The colors of the trees were truly magnificent at this time of year, perhaps the best time of year to visit Quebec if you're a nature lover.

After breakfast, we headed for the town center to access the hiking trails. There are many trails that start directly from the village. Most are very accessible. We decided to climb to the summit to admire the view of the Laurentian forests.

Here's the start of the walk on the multi-purpose trail, for cycling and hiking in fine weather, and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in winter. We soon leave the Corridor Aérobique to take a short trail up to the summit.

It's a real pleasure to walk in this forest, where the paths are very well marked, with maps all along the way. What's more, they're very well maintained. You can admire the colors without worrying too much about where you put your feet.

The trees had very pretty colors from green for the fir trees to red for the maples. Like fireworks, at least that's the impression I get from this photo 🔽

I thought I'd find a few mushrooms to take part in #FungyFriday. But as during the nights the temperatures are already below 0°, there wasn't much... Too bad, so my next participation will be next year 😀.

On the other hand, the view from the belvedere at the summit is quite obstructed by the trees. You can't admire the surrounding mountains, which you can only make out between the branches. The view must be worth it only in winter. Too bad, that's for another time...

Back at the parking lot in the center of Morin-Heigts after this ride of just over 5 kilometers (3 miles), really not tiring. I hope you enjoyed it. Happy Wednesday Walk Challenge to all...

That's what it's like to live in the Far North next to polar bears 😀 You must have enjoyed the northern lights, right?

Yep 😉

Sadly I probably was in the worst location for seeing the northern lights. Fully overcast, but a few days later I got green skies. No forms in the green though.

Beautiful colors 😍 looks like you caught it pretty close to peak. Colors still look good close to home but we drove over the mountains to dinner tonight and the eastern slope of the green mountains is definitely past peak - lots of sticks

There were already a few trees without leaves, but it was still beautiful, especially in the morning when you wake up with this view, it's a change from the city (even though I really like Montreal).

This whole blog post took me back on a nostalgic journey back to Germany which had similar views. Great to see you had a Trek up the summit. It indeed looks so beautiful.
