Street Art #718 Legal Wall de Rouen (August 2024 Part III), Montreal

avatar

We're back at Montreal's Legal Wall de Rouen for the third time this August. I was a little disappointed this month, but I think a lot of artists were either on vacation or at StreetArt festivals (like Under Pressure in Montreal). Because the quality wasn't there, as it usually is. There were only a few high-quality works, but most of them were just tags. You be the judge.

HER left a new girl with eyes outlined in white triangles next to Dead Pool done by Wolf. This was my favorite part of the day.

WHERE

It's not often that I take a photo of the whole viaduct, including the two walls that make up the Legal Wall de Rouen. This gives you a better idea of the location, with a Bixi (bike-sharing) station nearby.

WHO

Tenscrew & DooWorld / Jean Briod

DSC06387.JPG

We begin our walk as usual. Incredibly, the work of Tenscrew has held up for over 2 weeks. Just next door, it has changed often. This time it's a collaboration between Angela Belén aka DooWorld, a Canadian artist, and Jean Briod, a Swiss artist who loves “not-so-nasty creatures”.

Then there are two letterings by unknown artists. Although the second, which I like the style of the letters but less its filling, is the work of one of the members of the collective RNO (or RNO is an artist, no idea).

As you can see, there's nothing exceptional about this first wall... Am I too hard? I've been spoiled 😀 / FR : Comme vous pouvez le constater rien d'exceptionnel sur ce premier mur... Suis je trop dur ? J'ai été trop gaté 😀

DSC06397.JPG

Wolf, as Dead Pool says it, made a great effort (a Max Effort) to achieve this superb lettering with the character. And finally, HER's style also stood out on the day.

A little further on from the Legal Wall de Rouen, I came across this slightly melancholy extraterrestrial. Great little tag...

Yep there are many StreetArt festivals, even outside Montreal. But just like that, there's room for the "youngsters".
Have a great week

Woah this is a cool stretch of road. Reminds me of the city blocks in my Bushwick neighborhood, where commercial and industrial brick buildings are covered with street art for many street in a row. I can't even keep track of all the different artists and how often we get new art posted. I'm not nearly as well informed as I could be to know more of the history and background for the art and its artists.

It's cool to have walls like this where artists can practice freely. It's true that live cameras are needed to follow the evolution of this type of wall.
Have a great new week

How often do you see new pieces get painted? On a lot of the blocks here in Bushwick there is an unwritten code about how long the street art can stay up in one spot. It is always a shame to see beautiful street art mucked up with a few sloppy graffiti tags over top. That recently happened to this cool portrait of a pair of Puerto Rican sisters who both trained to become successful boxers. Ticks me off that people have such little respect that they would paint over someone else's worth that way.

I agree that HER's character is the best on the wall this time around. And also agree it looks like a slow time, not much new quality work.

Vacations and many StreetArt festivals across Quebec, this leaves room for "younger" artists.
