How are you coping with it and what tips would you give others to stay healthy in such times

We are gradually transitioning from the rainy season to the dry season, altgough I would say the dry season came quite early because in my location it's been over a month since it last rained here. Hence, the after effect of no rain is beginning to take over, the grounds are becoming so sandy and there is too dust everywhere, the grasses and plants are beginning to wither away.just last week we had to resume to local means of wetting our plants by manually pouring water on them so that they can still grow despite the harsh conditions they face and be sustainable. The thing is the dry season kind of have an aura that let's you know that the festive periods of Christmas and new year is close by.

The dry season is one that is known to poise some unique challenges that people can face, be it health, environment, agriculture, economic and so on. But in terms of health, we have common health challenges during this period like dehydration, respiratory issues like cough, catarrh, asthma, increase in temperature, dry skin, cold, and so on. For the case of dehydration, this is the period when people are medically advised to take enough water and stay hydrated in every way possible. It also includes having a cool bath if it was hot outside.

One thing I dislike most about this period is the 'dust', we experience too much dust both inside and outside and if care is not taken, this can cause you to have a cough and catarrh. Experiencing a blocked nose can be so horrible that you begin to appreciate the gift of healthy breathing. Runny noses can be so annoying and embarrassing coupled with the cold that you end up being restless and uncomfortable. In this case it is advised that you use protective gear whenever you encounter a dusty environment, you can use a nose mask or just avoid it entirely.

Again, it is important to maintain good hygiene by keeping the environment clean and healthy, especially for kids. You can employ the use of air purifiers to circulate quality air which would aid in reducing dust and allergens.

In conclusion, as Nigerias who are prone to experiencing the effects of dry season and harmattan, ensure to be fully clothed with thick material to avoid too much cold in your system.
