If there is a literary genre that I love is fantasy and that's why I'm always looking for recommendations. Thanks to these Ibros I have made friends and recently I was recommended "Fourth Wing" by Rebecca Yarros.

I started reading it without many expectations, not knowing if it was a single book, a bilogy, trilogy or saga.... I got a BIG surprise when I finished reading it.

Which by the way is the first book of a five book saga.

Synopsis:

Violet Sorrengail believed that in her twenties she would join the Scribes' Quadrant to live a quiet life, studying her beloved books and the ancient stories that so fascinate her. However, on the orders of her mother, the dreaded Commander General, Violet must join the thousands of candidates vying to become part of Navarre's elite: the dragon riders.

When you are smaller and more fragile than others your life is in danger, because dragons do not bond with weak humans; in fact, they incinerate them. Add to this, with more riders than dragons available, many of the candidates would kill Violet to improve their chances of success; others, like the ruthless Xaden Riorson, the most powerful wing leader in the Quadrant, would kill her simply because she is the daughter of the commanding general. To survive, she will need to use all her wits to the fullest.

Day by day, the war raging outside the College grows more lethal, the kingdom's defenses weaken and the dead increase. As if that weren't enough, Violet suspects that the leaders of Navarre are hiding a terrible secret.

Friendship, rivalry and passion... at the Basgiath War College everyone has a hidden agenda and knows that once inside there are only two possibilities: graduate or die.

MY OPINION

Imagine a mix between The Hunger Games, Divergent and The Targaryen (House of the Dragon).

A story set in a kingdom divided into factions or in this case, quadrants. We have the Scribes quadrant, the Infantry quadrant, the Healers quadrant and the quadrant considered "the elite of Navarre", the Riders quadrant. The only quadrant where only volunteers are allowed, because of the dangers involved, obviously. Although Violet was forced by her mother since "there are only riders in her family".

The problem is that Violet is different. Her body is smaller and more fragile and she seriously has little chance of graduating or being chosen by a dragon. It's a pretty wild life and far removed from what she was used to. She was raised by her father to be a Scribe so all she has left is to use her intelligence to survive.

We see how our protagonist faces trials that could cost her life, companions willing to murder the weakest, or simply anyone who gets in her way to become a true dragon rider. But before that he will have to pass the last test, which consists in the fact that a dragon must choose his rider, and only he can choose. And to tell the truth, in case they don't choose you, it is better that they don't choose you and ignore you, than that they incinerate you for looking weak which is one of the dragons' pasts. They don't play games 😁

And speaking of dragons, it's one of my favorite things about the book. The connection between a dragon and its rider is unique. In fact one of the mottos is that,

A dragon without its rider is a tragedy. A rider without his dragon is dead.

And yes, it is very literal.

I loved the dragons especially Tairn and Andarna. I loved their personalities. I got excited every time Tairn said something. Just read me right DRAGONS.

This book has good fantasy, good action, good ROMANCE, specifically, good enemies to lovers. Because these characters seriously hate each other, I mean, they literally want to kill each other and the tension between them is incredible.

And the ending of the book is... wow. At the end it hits us with a plot twist that knocks you out with a plot twist you don't expect.

I was left wanting more and I'm dying to know what happens in the next book that will be published in November 😍

I hated many characters, loved others. It's seriously one of the best fantasy books I've ever read. And I'm 100% sure it deserves all the hype it has on tik tok. All booktok is talking about this book and the truth is it's worth it because it has it all. Wars, action, rivalries, hate, love, secrets, betrayals, plots, deaths, plot twist....

Yes, it has it all. If you haven't read it, start now!

Si hay un género literario que me encanta es el de fantasía y por eso siempre busco recomendaciones. Gracias a estos Ibros he hecho amigas y hace poco me recomendaron "Alas de Sangre" de Rebecca Yarros.

Empecé a leerlo sin muchas expectativas, sin saber si era un solo libro, una bilogía, trilogía o saga... Me llevé una GRAN sorpresa cuando terminé de leerlo.

Que por cierto es el primer libro de una saga de cinco libros.

Sumado a esto, con más jinetes que dragones disponibles, buena parte de los candidatos mataría a Violet con tal de mejorar sus probabilidades de éxito; otros, como el despiadado Xaden Riorson, el líder de ala más poderoso del Cuadrante, la asesinarían simplemente por ser la hija de la comandante general. Para sobrevivir, necesitará aprovechar al máximo todo su ingenio.

Día tras día, la guerra que se libra al exterior del Colegio se torna más letal, las defensas del reino se debilitan y los muertos aumentan. Por si fuera poco, Violet sospecha que los líderes de Navarre esconden un terrible secreto.

Amistad, rivalidad y pasión... en el Colegio de Guerra de Basgiath todos tienen una agenda oculta y saben que una vez adentro solo hay dos posibilidades: graduarse o morir.

Imagínate una mezcla entre Los Juegos del Hambre, Divergente y Los Targaryen (La Casa del Dragón).

Una historia ambientada en un reino dividido en facciones o en este caso, cuadrantes. Tenemos al cuadrante de Escribas, el cuadrante de Infantería, el cuadrante de Curanderos y el cuadrante considerado "la élite de Navarre", el cuadrante de Jinetes. El único cuadrante en donde solo se permiten voluntarios, por los peligros que conlleva, obviamente. Aunque Violet fue obligada por su madre ya que "solo hay jinetes en su familia".

El problema es que Violet es diferente. Su cuerpo es más pequeño y más frágil y en serio tiene pocas probabilidades de graduarse o de que un dragón la elija. Es una vida bastante salvaje y muy lejana a lo que ella estaba acostumbrada. Fue educada por su padre para ser Escriba así que lo único que le queda es usar su inteligencia para sobrevivir.

Vemos como nuestra protagonista se enfrenta a pruebas que podrían costarle la vida, compañeros dispuestos a asesinar a los más débiles, o simplemente a cualquiera que le estorbe en su camino para convertirse en un verdadero jinete de dragones. Pero antes de eso deberá superar la última prueba que consiste en que un dragón debe elegir a su jinete, y sólo él puede elegir. Y a decir verdad, en caso de que no te elijan, es mejor que no te elijan y te ignoren, a que te incineren por parecer débil que es uno de los pasatiempos de los dragones. Ellos no se andan con juegos 😁

Y hablando de dragones, es una de mis cosas favoritas del libro. La conexión entre un dragón y su jinete es única. De hecho uno de los lemas es que,

Un dragón sin su jinete es una tragedia. Un jinete sin su dragón está muerto.

Y sí, es muy literal.

Amé a los dragones especialmente a Tairn y Andarna. Amé sus personalidades. Me emocionaba cada vez que Tairn decía algo. Es que leeme bien: DRAGONES.

Este libro tiene fantasía de la buena, acción de la buena, ROMANCE del bueno, específicamente, enemies to lovers de los buenos. Porque estos personajes en serio se odian, es decir, literalmente se quieren matar y la tensión entre ellos es increíble.

Y el final del libro es... wow. Al final nos golpea con un plot twist que te deja noqueado con un giro argumental que no esperas.

Quedé con ganas de más y muero por saber qué pasa en el siguiente libro que será publicado en noviembre 😍

Odié a muchos personajes, amé a otros. En serio es uno de los mejores libros de fantasía que he leído. Y estoy 100% segura de que merece todo el hype que tiene en tik tok. Todo booktok está hablando de este libro y la verdad es que vale la pena porque lo tiene todo. Guerras, acción, rivalidades, odio, amor, secretos, traiciones, complots, muertes, plot twist...
