The Power of the Martyr ability
Until today I always thought that the Martyr ability was not that great and monsters like the Venari Marksrat were weak and useless in battles since they were easily defeated, but today I decided to test this ability to buff some of my monsters and see what result I would get in battle.
But first let's go step by step and I will start by explaining how the Martyr ability works in Splinterlands.
The Martyr ability is represented by the image above and its function will be to grant +1 of all Stats to adjacent monsters when the monster with the Martyr ability is defeated, then the adjacent monsters will gain +1 attack, +1 speed, +1 life and +1 armor (if they have base armor).
Most monsters that have the Martyr ability are "weak", they have little life so they can be easily defeated and their main function will be to buff adjacent monsters.
To test the Martyr ability, I chose the Venari Marksrat monster since I already had it in my collection and had the Gold Foil version that will give me a 10% bonus on my ranked battle gains, so it would be the perfect choice since for me its only function is to be defeated and buff the 2 monsters I put next to it.
These are the general stats of the Venari Marksrat monster and as I mentioned, its health is low even at maximum level, so it is not a powerful monster for your battles but it can be very useful with the right strategy since it will buff your monsters.
In addition to the Martyr ability, the Venari Marksrat also has the Snare and Shatter abilities.
The Snare ability gives the Venari Marksrat a 100% chance of removing the Flying ability from the monster it attacks.
The Shatter ability makes the Venari Marksrat completely destroy the armor of the monster it attacks.
These aren't the best abilities a monster can have, but they are useful in the right battles. The Venari Marksrat I used is only level 2, so it only has the Martyr ability, and for my strategy to work, that's all I need on it.
BATTLE
Using this battle as an example, my strategy was to put the Venari Marksrat next to my Chaos Dragon and Void Dragon monsters because they will both be immune to the Earthquake rule since they have the Flying ability and also because they are my 2 strongest monsters in the battle.
The Chaos Dragon is my most powerful monster in this battle and together with the Martyr ability buff, it will become a true damage-dealing machine, especially with the help of its Blast ability.
The Void Dragon is also very powerful and will cause even more damage when it receives the Martyr ability buff, but its main function will be to dodge my opponent's attacks.
This was one of those battles in which I believed I would be defeated because my opponent had much more firepower than me, but with the help of Venari Marksrat buffing my Chaos Dragon and Void Dragon monsters I managed to emerge victorious since I had an incredible damage-dealing machine and a monster that dodged almost all attacks.
