CAPE OF SAN ANTONIO / CABO DE SAN ANTONIO [EN/ES]

In the western part of the Cuban archipelago, we find Cabo de San Antonio, belonging to the Guanacabibes natural reserve, this cape is home to one of the most spectacular virgin areas of the country. First when we enter, we find the forest ranger's cabin, in which we can see a miniature of the Cape, and learn more about its history, then we have the imposing Roncali Lighthouse.

En la parte mas occidental del archipiélago de Cuba, nos encontramos con el Cabo de San Antonio, perteneciente a la reserva natural de Guanacabibes, este cabo alberga una de las zonas virgenes mas espectaculares del Pais. Primero al entrar, nos encontramos con la cabaña del guarda bosques, en la que podemos ver una miniatura del Cabo, y conocer mas acerca de su historia, seguido, tenemos el imponente Faro Roncali.

Created in 1849, this lighthouse has guided a number of boats, marking the westernmost end of the country, and being an absolute witness to multiple robberies of corsairs and pirates, as well as countless shipwrecks. The forest rangers of the area say that before the creation of the lighthouse, the sailors were guided by the huge trees that grew in the area, but in the darkness of the night it was impossible to navigate the waters of the strait without being prone to lead with the rocks near the coast, this is how it is decided to create this lighthouse, which was named after the Count of Alcoy: Federico de Roncali

Creado en 1849, este faro a guiado a un sin números de embarcaciones, marcando el extremo mas occidental del país, y siendo testigo absoluto de múltiples atracos de corsarios y piratas, así como incontables naufragios. Cuentan los guardabosques del área que antes de la creación del faro, los marinos se guiaban por los enormes arboles que crecían en la zona, pero en la oscuridad de la noche era imposible navegar las aguas del estrecho sin estar propenso a encañar con las rocas cercanas a la costa, es así como se decide crear este faro, el cual es recibió su nombre del Conde de Alcoy: Federico de Roncali

Returning to the Cape, geologically we find huge strips dominated by marine terraces, exposed to strong sea currents that generate an impressive view by breaking the waves and generating a whole foamy fan. Being a karssic area, it allows the formation of small caves, protecting the local nocturnal fauna (bats).

Volviendo al Cabo, geológicamente nos encontramos con enormes franjas dominadas por terrazas marinas, expuestas a fuertes corrientes marinas que generan una vista impresionante al romper las olas y generar todo un abanico espumoso. Al ser una zona cársica, permite la formación de pequeñas cuevas, las protegen a la fauna local nocturna (murciélagos).

As we get closer to the tip, we can delight in the incredible unspoiled beaches of the area. It is really impressive to observe and have the pleasure of bathing in these waters, in which very few, not to say practically no man, have been able to enter. The variation in its composition of the sand, generate peculiar astonishment, of how we have beaches full of coral remains and shells, quite well preserved, due to the drag of nearby currents, and as in some other sandy strips, we find sand so white and fine that it looks like pearl dust.

A medida que nos acercamos a la punta, nos podemos deleitar con las increíbles playas virgenes de la área. Es realmente impresionante observar y tener el placer de bañarse en estas aguas, en las que muy pocos, por no decir que prácticamente ningún hombre, ha podido entrar. La variación en su composición de la arena, generar peculiar asombro, de como tenemos unas playas llenas de restos corales y de conchas, bastante bien conservados, debido a el arrastre de corrientes cercanas, y como en algunas otras franjas arenosas, encontramos una arena tan blanca y fina que pareciera polvo de perla.

Thanks to the immaculate nature of the coasts and the absolute absence of man's intervention, an incredible and exponential coral barrier develops on its coasts, which houses an infinity of marine specimens, aquatic plants, schools of fish typical of the colorful Caribbean seas and an endless number of coral varieties, make both surface and deep diving a dream experience.

Gracias a lo inmaculado de sus costas y la ausencia absoluta de la intervención del hombre, se desarrolla en sus costas una increíble y exponencial barrera coralina, que alberga una infinidad de especímenes marinos, plantas acuáticas, cardúmenes de peces típicos de los coloridos mares del caribe y un sinfín de variedades de coral, hacen que tanto el buceo de superficie como el de profundidad sea una experiencia de ensueño.

Undoubtedly Cabo de San Antonio is one of those places that leave a mark on the heart and memory of everyone who visits it, delight in its incredible natural composition, hand in hand with the generosity of the few inhabitants who have the intrepidity of living so far from the big cities, and its incredible culinary art, make the visit to Cabo de San Antonio an option that we always want to repeat.

Sin duda el Cabo de San Antonio es de esos lugares que dejan huella en el corazón y la memoria de todo aquel que lo visita, deleitarse con su increíble composición natural, de la mano de la generosidad de los pocos habitantes que tienen la intrepidez de vivir tan apartados de las grandes ciudades, y de su increíble arte culinaria, hacen que la visita al Cabo de San Antonio sea una opción que siempre queremos repetir.
