Sketch Diary 09: Magellan's Cross in Cebu

Hey friends! It's me @tegoshei. :)
I made this account years ago when I wanted to focus on anime, but somehow my main account has become an anime account, so I decided to use this one for my poetry, sketches or art and some photography challenges. Well, mostly for creative stuff.

Last night, I started a certain sketch and it's based on one of the famous landmarks here in Cebu. It's called Magellan's Cross.





This landmark is situated beside Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, the oldest established Roman Catholic church in Cebu. Magellan's Cross is a stone kiosk which houses the cross planted by the Spanish explorers way back in the 1520s. I checked some references online, but I didn't follow everything. The original pavilion has black gates all over that they sometimes close, so people who go there to pray just stay outside of the pavilion.

It's actually a beautiful sight to see... you can appreciate the history and the architecture style that it embodies.

Anyway, let me share some of the progress shots I took when making this sketch.

On a 9" x 12" sketchpad, I drew this using 5H, 3B and 4B pencils as well as a kneadable eraser. Yes!!! I finally got a kneadable eraser again... thanks for buying pa! haha

And yeah, I drew a couple of trees in the background, but in reality, you could see other buildings and road depending on which angle you're looking at.

I have been experimenting on various subjects to sketch or draw these days, so hopefully I'd somehow improve. hahaha It was fun doing so, though. :)
