History of My Sows ( Part 2)

To continue, here is Mama Pig Dos. As her name implies, she is our 2nd Sow but because Mama Pig Uno was sold, she is now the oldest. Uno's piglets that we raised as fatteners were all sold.

Mama Pig Dos was from the piglets we bought to be raised for fattening. When they reached the 3rd month, we selected 1 from 12 of them to be used or to be raised as our future gilt.

This picture popped up in my photo memory & it reminded me that today is the 2nd year of Mama Pig Dos being with us(yay! I need to post this tonight!). We divided them into 2 rooms..

So Mama Dos is the largest in size among the sows we hve. On her 1st parity last March 3, 2023 she gave us 10 healthy piglets, on her 2nd parity, she only had 3 healthy piglets last July 27, 2023 & on her 3rd parity, she gave us 11 live piglets with 4 dead because of the delay of her delivery.

Here they were on their 1st month, last Aug 28, 2023 there typhoon in our place and I evacuated them into the garage area. Good thing, they were only 3. This was what God said, that in everything we have to give thanks!! Honestly, we were so disappointed when she only got 3 piglets but God revealed his purpose when the flood came on their 1st month. What if there were 10 piglets? How could I evacuated them with I, myself? My husband was at work that time. God really was & is so good to us.

January 11,2024 3rd Parity 12 alive 3 dead upon delivery.

Her due date was supposed to be on January 13, 2024 but she delivered her Piglets as early as January 11, 2024 so I was not prepared. She gave birth without my supervision. When I came to the piggery @7am I was shocked she already gave birth to 13 piglets & there was 1 dead on beside her and the rest were scattering arround & outside the farrowing pen.

I picked them up and put everyone beside their mother & let them have milk.. when they were settled, I went out to get a bulb to heat them up. When I came back, another piglet was out and already dead so I thought that she was not yet finished delivering. I checked the vulva & I felt another one then I pulled it out but it was already dead..What a waste but then, I need to be grateful of what were given and nevermind what was wasted.

All in all, Mama Pig Dos got 15, 12 alive & 3 dead but after a day, another 1 died because he was too small & weak. So we only got 11 healthy piglets.

The piglets were weaned on their 29th day last February 9, 2024. After a week of weaning, Mama Pig Dos got her Aritificial Insemination on Feb 18, 2024 but it did get through because 9 days after the AI, she got an infection.

These were the picture during the infection and that was the symptoms so the technician treated her got injected with the antibiotic and undergone the process of medication.

This is her chart to make it short. We completed the medication. Take note that after her antibiotic she got the sign of heat again last March 19, 2024 but we did not do the AI we need to skip another heat cycle to make sure that she is totally healed & fully recovered. She was given the vitamins she needed for her fast recovery at the same time she was dewormed before the heat sign again. Finally she got her Artificial Insemination (AI) last April 7, 2024 and had follow ups and was noted in the chart.

So the 2nd part is all about Mama Pig Dos. This means that we have to continue in the next blog the 3rd part. So I hope you enjoy it again & follow for the next part.
