Power and Brutality Amidst Pink and Green | Splinterlands Weekly Contest

Yes, here comes the magical scourge 💥

Welcome once again to my participation in the @Splinterlands weekly art contest. Today, I come to show you a demonstration of strength and magic, wrapped in a majestic blue skin painted with white stripes.

Harbingers of chaos, that's what these huge orcs are called, who not only rely on their strength and extreme aggression towards their enemies but also can channel the magic of the world, making them one of the most valuable assets for any army. I imagine facing one of them is a choice between dying from a magical attack or being struck by their devastating staff. Although if you're lucky, perhaps they'll greet you with the Spartan kick from the movie 300.

🔰Process🔰

-Step 1:

I wanted a pose that showed fury and power, so I was looking for references of very muscular and large characters, and I found some amazing 3D models of Venom, but their poses were too exaggerated. So, I took my smartphone and took a few photos to use as a reference. Yes, that magical and furious orc is me, with the same ugly face but without so much muscle.

-Step 2:

To showcase the magic's glow, I opted for a nighttime setting and selected the color tones for the character's base colors from there. Here, I also experimented with combining green and pink in the magic effects. These two colors complement each other incredibly well, and since the orc's eyes were a strong green, I had the perfect excuse to use both colors.

-Step 3:

Since the amulet was floating in the air, I wanted most of the lighting to come from there, so I gave it the shine characteristic of gold and focused on creating the contrast of lights and shadows directing the light source upwards. I also worked on detailing the white paint covering the orc's skin.

-Step 4:

I wanted to create a stone wall in the background filled with ruins, but in the end, it didn't turn out as I wanted, so I resorted to the old reliable method of using the motion blur filter to blur everything and thus achieve a sense of movement that accompanies the energy reflected in the orc's face.

-Step 5:

At the beginning of the post, you saw the cropped illustration, but now you've reached the moment to see the extended version of this scene, where you can see the reason why I cropped it. I was very excited detailing the upper torso of the orc next to the floating idol, but I didn't add too many details around. Still, I didn't want to omit all that space in the illustration because I wanted you to see the illustration in its entirety. The purpose of focusing the details in a specific area is to direct the viewer's gaze there. In this case, I tried to make you focus directly on the main character, then notice the flying amulet, next see the magic around it, and feel the background as a companion. But I ask you to pay attention to the image below where I've highlighted the most important details. I need you to rate the skulls; they're the last thing I painted, but I really liked them (I'm always happy painting skulls).
