Exploring Flathead Lake and the Glacier Park in Montana.
My last camping experience we decided to go south. This time crossing the border to Montana. The Glacier Park area is known to be the American part of our Canadian Waterton Park. It was my first time to explore Montana also, I have never been there. Summer is hot in here and this time is a bit wet. Usually, our July/August is pretty dry and wildfires are pretty active in Rocky's region. Despite of Jasper being burned, we don't see many other wildfires in the are in this season. The camping grounds that we were supposed to stay were Northeast of Flathead Lake, in a city called Bigfork.
My wife wanted to cancel the trip since in our weather apps there was some possibility of Thunderstorms on Friday, we were going on Friday and leaving on Sunday. I told her that thunderstorms are fast and we can figure it out when we get there what to do. After we almost got to Bigfork, we saw the black clouds and lightning in addition to a radio warning about possible hail and crazy winds. My wife was a bit afraid so I decided to get a hotel for Friday night. We had some strong winds and rain but no hail indeed was going to be difficult to assemble a tent until it was done (around 9 PM) and with little kids I think it was a good decision to overnight in a local motel in Kalispell (around 15 minutes from Bigfork).
On Saturday morning we decided to go to the campgrounds. the name is Wayferer Campground. we assembled everything and around 11am we were all settled and ready to have lunch, some grilled chicken and corn, similar to the last camping experience. After that, we explored the camping ground which had many trees compared to the other campgrounds for the season and the possibility of bears lurking around. For that reason, we kept the food all the time inside the car. The lake is beautiful but there isn't a beach in there, it has a shallow area but the weather as a bit coldish to swim. We preferred just to walk around and check it out. Also, we went to a child playground near the entrance of the campground.
After exploring the campground we decided to check out the Glacier Park. I was lucky to hear some good tips about how to explore there. The first one is the make sure to buy the Park tickets beforehand since they limit the daily purchases. I bought it still on May which cost around 30$ and you can use it for 7 days. In addition to that, if you are going to explore going-to-the-sun Road, the most famous road that crosses all the whole park, between 6AM and 3PM you need to reserve prior also in the website since they add checkpoints to limit number of cars. It costs only 2$ for that and you can do that only starting 7 PM in the previous day. But we decided first to stop in a city called Hungry Horse where there is a place with the best huckleberry milkshake in the area, the Huckeberry Patch. The milkshake was delicious by the way.
After that, we entered the park and explored a bit Lake Mcdonald, the biggest one in the park where there are also boat tours. It was getting late so we headed back to the campground since we needed more 30-40 minutes of road to get in there. It was a pleasant night with a nice fireplace with Smores.
On Sunday, our last day, my oldest wanted to explore a hiking trail in the campground before leaving. The campground has easy trails with just a couple minutes' walk for everyone, we went in one with a nice view of Flathead lake. After that we headed back home and different from our way in, we went through the going-to-the-sun road in the glacier park which is a longer way but with nice views from the top of the mountains and lead us to a place close to the border of Carway. The road was very narrow, and I saw a car scraping the mountain. That road got snow last week after a cold front got in the area but when we were there it was nice. During our way in there we stopped also at the most famous trail in the park, the Cedar Trail. It is nice and easy to go with kids and old people since it is all through a wood path.

In what altitude is that?

Oh, that sounds nice :) Mountain lakes are great too, though - I think I'll publish a post about Zell am See, a well-known town and lake in the Alps this weekend. We did enjoy a dip after all the hiking :)
Awesome! I want to see it :)

here is one of the highest points of the road, last Wednesday when it snowed hehehe when I went there it was around 15 degrees Celsius
What an amazing place, the mountain with a little snow is breathtaking. In my region we are in snow season, I would love to be able to see it up close. Glad you enjoyed this trip.
