Freedom of Speech: A Right in Theory, A Struggle in Practice

If we looks at the past when the King and Queens were ruling the land. They were the supreme of the land and no one was dare to speak against them and if someone dare then that was on cost of their lives. Their was a few examples where the people were given the right to speak freely otherwise speaking against the ruler was considered as the traitor and their was one punishment for such people and that was the death penalty. The same is continuing till now in the books we have the right to speak or free speak but in reality this is not happening. Some one highlighting the failure or government or speaking something which is against the government them either he is referred as the traitor or they get punished by some meanings. The government has power and he has many means to trouble you if you are interested their hit list. I have many example of such cases where people get framed and punished by some means when they tried to go against some wrong activities of government.
Not even government you just look around you in your office itself. Do you think anything dare to go against him or her even if he took a wrong decision. Their will a few or jo one and those how always point out the mistakes they get the rewards in the form of some negative impact on their career.

The constitution of India give the right to free speech in Indian and it covers under the article 19(1)(a). The article freedom of speech and expression to the people of India. This also allows the individuals to express their thoughts, opinions, and beliefs without censorship or restraint. This is considered as the fundamental right in India, but I always thing is it? People are free to speak but they are restricted and the constitution outlines that on some specific grounds like it should not effect the integrity of India, it should not effect the security of the state, it should be keeping in mind the public orders, morality, contempt of court. You can not defamation someone by taking the advantage of the free speech and always keep in mind that Incitement to an offense. This is also a basic pillar for the freedom of press (is press free to speak). It looks appropriate also as the freedom should not be on the cost of threat to the country and on the other hand it is vital for a healthy democracy. It gives rise to the exchange of ideas and is a opportunity for the public to express their discomfort and public discourse.

But in my opinion this all is limited to the books and in reality if you speak or try to highlight any issue which hurts the government them you have to be more cautious as their may be big chance that you will be get target by the people near to the government or even direct by the government. In the recent former agitation we have seen similar incidents and saw many organizations, NGO are targeted buy the government when they speak in favor or farmers and stood with them. The role of CBI and ED was very suspicious in such cases as they are the one most effective weapon in the hands of the government. They use them to threaten the agencies or organization.

No doubt the free speak is very important for the democracy other wise their will not be much different between a democratic and democracy. Free speak give raise to the health debates which leads to the ideas and solutions for the many social and political issues in our society. The slaps give the freedom to individual to express their thoughts, opinions, and beliefs without censorship or restraint. The censorship is another big weapon in hands of the government, you try to express anything on web or on social media which is not liked by the government or in favor of government they suppress them by taking down their accounts. This is also a big limitations of the web2.
