Dinner Time Diaries: The Evolution of Family Routines
Dear Hive Friend and Hive Learner Members,

The all do something for living and the food, shelter and clothes are the basic needs. I know some may not be agreed as in today's hi tech world the new generation also considered their tech also in basic needs. In India the working time are not very good as mostly people over stay in office, which ultimately effective the person and social life. Most of the sector has 6 days of working culture so we have only Sunday for relaxing and completing the pending house works. Fortunately after my transfer, I am mostly leaving the office on time and new policies also always the alternative Saturday off provision. This also make possible to spend more time with family and friends.
During my childhood we all have our dinner together. My mother use to cook the food and one of us has the responsible of cut the salad and place the water bottle or jug / jars. Most of the time my mother have the dinner at last when we all finished the dinner. This is the normal practice in north side of India. Preparing the food is mostly responsible of female member of the family. We three bother sit together along with my father and grand mother for dinner always and their was not provided for watching TV. Actually TV were not most popular media and the channels telecast the program as per pre defined time only. So that was the time we all talk and finished our dinner.
Over the time the habit of eating together vanish because of many reasons. Me and my twin brother were staying away for the home after completing the schooling for higher studies but when ever we visited our home we all sit together for dinner.
We are nuclear family and were are five persons in our family (including my mother and grandmother). My grand mother is in old age so we have taken care of her eating habits, she do not like to be late for dinner. So most of time my grandmother had their dinner as per their time table. But me and my wife always has dinner together along with our kid. My mother also joined us most of the time other wise she joined my grand mother. In our daily routine the breakfast and lunch we had alone but dinner is always together. The breakfast timings are different as we kid and me has different timings for leaving the home and morning time is always so busy that we will not be able to make it together. My wife always had her the breakfast after we left the home. But for the morning tea we always sit together and that was a time when we also discussed if their is any important topic for the day. I have freedom to visit the home during the lunch as my office is very close to our township premises. But as my wife has their breakfast take she do not feel hungry the time I reached the home for lunch so the lunch time I have my lunch alone but she always sit beside me for the company or serving the food to me.
Most of the time the TV is in custody of my kid but during the dinner time we use to watch one episode of our favorite serial. I know some people do not like the screen timing during the dinner but for us this is the time when we can watch something of our own interest and it's better to watch TV then the staring at mobile screen. Mobile is mostly away form us during the dinner time but not the TV. Our kid also watch the same what we use to see and we also take care of that the content we are watching with kid. I tried some time keeping ourselves away form TV during the dinner but not able to successfully and most of the families I knew have the same habit during the dinner time and I find nothing wrong in same.
