Hey All,

My son Laksh Gupta who is 12 Years old has developed and shown the interest of learning a guitar. Although he has expressed his desire to learn multiple times before, I initially dismissed it as a passing phase and chose not to pursue the matter further. Two days back I asked him if he is serious or not as money doesn't matter. What matter most is that once I enroll him to a music academy and buy him a decent guitar then it shouldn't be that I don't like it or its too complicated to learn a guitar etc etc.. Finally, he assured me that he is serious about his interest and would like to pursue guitar learning classes to develop his skills further.

Ok now that it is concluded that he is keen in learning Guitar. I enrolled him to a music academy named by UnitedStrings which is close to our apartment. We had a talk with the music teacher and he also suggested to buying a guitar now is better as opposed to after 5 or 6 classes as it would help Laksh practice at home. The teacher also said its up to us to decide and he was fine with whatever decision we take as in the music academy they are giving their instrument for learning at the moment. But its always better to have your own instrument any time for the benefits it provides. Long story short lets now get into - Which GUITAR to BUY for Beginners - Some Research... First and foremost, buying a guitar is a costly affair as they are often priced significantly higher starting range from Rs.10K+ onwards and depends upon on their quality, brand, and features. To be honest I have no knowledge about guitar and hence relied to chatGpt to provide some insights here. I asked this question:: "suggest me a guitar for beginners that i can buy in India." And got these suggestions::

  • Henrix 38C Cutaway Acoustic Guitar
  • Vault EA20 Cutaway Acoustic Guitar
  • Yamaha F280 Acoustic Guitar
  • Fender Squier SA-150 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar
  • Ibanez MD39C Cutaway Acoustic Guitar

Acoustic Guitar named seem common and hence my curiosity to know about Acoustic Guitar emerged. And after doing some goggling I came to know that and Acoustic Guitar produces sound naturally through the vibration of its strings and the resonance of its hollow wooden body. The sound here is amplified acoustically by the guitar's body. And then there is this Electric Guitar where it uses external amplification to produce sound. So far so good and I now knew that I would need to buy an Acoustic Guitar for Laksh but then the question remains which type, number or series. The Yamaha F280 Acoustic Guitar was frequently recommended by many seeing the online reviews, and it fits within my budget of around Rs. 10K+. I can stretch it to Rs. 15K+ if needed, but it must be a high-quality guitar. You can see how complicated this is getting to choose a good guitar and recently I found this terminology - "Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar" And now I am confused that should we go for Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar or simply Acoustic Guitar? Cam across this guitar in this segment which is::

  • Fender CD-60S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

We now have two options with us which are; Yamaha F280 Acoustic Guitar and one highlighted above the Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar. I am yet to hear from the music teacher on their recommendation but for now I have done my research and have these options with me. Let's see what the teacher recommends, and based on that, I will buy the best guitar for my son, Laksh, to ensure he has the best learning experience. Let me know in the comment section below if you have any suggestions on the guitar for beginners. cheer...

In my personal opinion the best guitars to get started are nylon classical models, and yamaha makes some of the best for the money.

A yamaha c40 is a full sized classical nylon string guitar. Because its easier on the fingers, beginners tend to practice more, since they dont experience so much pain (its normal when you start)

if he really gets into it, he wont just have one guitar, but as someone whos been playing and building guitars for decades; regardless of how much you know about guitars and your level of skill... a classic nylon is always nice to have.
