A First Loss On The Homestead

It's been a bit of a wild ride here on the homestead lately. One thing I've learned is out here you get a deeper sense of connection to everything.
I did a little harvesting from my garden and found this beautiful caterpillar! The raspberries are delicious and I eat some every day. The harvest isn't big by any means but hey it's a start right?! Some lettuce leaves I forgot I had planted at some point was a nice surprise and these raspberries if I don't eat them all will be freeze dried for a delicious snack later. Yes, I wear this apron outside at times I think it's cute don't you? lol Socks and sandals life haha
The last few days have been hard on me as I lost my first animal on the homestead. Her name is Egghead. Each night when I bring the chickens in I do a count of them to make sure they are all in for the night. I quickly realized I was missing one and searched high and low for her with no luck. I'm still hoping she either finds her way back to the coop or that maybe she ended up venturing off to a neighbors coop. I've found myself crying over it a few times. I know it's silly to cry over a chicken but every animal here on the homestead has a connection to me. I love and care for each of them.

Sorry for the chicken, but maybe she will come back. When we moved to our homestead, we moved our chickens with us. They had a little shock from the change of place, one old chicken just went somewhere and did not appear for two days. We grieved and have already come to terms with her loss, but she just came back.
Thank you! I hope she just ran off to lay some eggs and maybe come back with little chicks!
When you keep an animal or a beast and even if you are interested, dependence will definitely occur. Hopefully it will be.
Yay! 🤗

That is tough when you suffer a loss on a smaller homestead. You become attached to the creatures more easily.
Hopefully, egghead will turn up.

Thank you I hope so <3
Any loss of a chicken in the homestead can be very touching because of the time, love and care shared with them, this unfortunately we must go through once a while. Wishing you all the best @gubbahomestead.
Thank you ♥️
Sorry about the chicken - I totally empathise. They become like pets or paty of the family.
Doesn't the apron get in the way when you move around?
They really are! It all depends on what I'm doing for the apron
Ok I understand
It's not silly to cry over your chicken because she means a lot to you. Almost like a pet. I have a pet and sometimes go out of my mind if he goes missing. I hope Egghead returns home soon.
Beautiful pictures, by the way. I love surprise vegetables. I hope you are encouraged to grow more. Nicely done. Keep it up! 😊 !CTP !PIZZA

It's not silly to cry at all! Homesteading is hard work in every area and tending to animals is even harder still. When you care for animals every single day you come to know them personally, and the inevitable loss still stings.
That said, I hope your Egghead just went on a walkabout and wanders home soon.
And congrats on those lovely raspberries, I picked some yesterday too😊

I hope so too. Thank you! Raspberries are soooooo good!
Harvesting what you've grown is a feeling like no other. Hope Egghead makes it home.
