Here is a presentation of my DIY rope protection, upgrade.
I hope that an upgrade counts as an DIY, too.
I did already several of wooden Ls, or angles, rope protection, edge protection and so on. There have been many names and description of those little, important helpers. However, I chose three of my old ones, repaired and improved them.
The rope protection saves ropes from being cut by sharp edges or objects. On other occasions, it protects the edge itself if it's made of soft material, like, tin, brass, or wood. But even harder material can burst or bend under a body weight of 1 to 2 hundredweights. Not forgetting the equipment, harness, tools, et cetera. A move from right to left, a jump here to there or swing around to reach the dead spot can multiply your weight until it exceeds the maximal load rating of a material. Imagine 100 kilograms concentrated on 1 cm, where the rope turns for the last time.

But enough of that. I show you an example what you can build easily by yourself to reach longevity.

The protection is made of wood. To be more precisely: medium-density fibreboard.
First, I took off the old squared timbers.

Drilled holes and screwed the shorter pieces together. Took off the old metal angles.

Drilled large holes to reduce weight. That's important when you have to carry your equipment to the top of your work side most of the time.

Cord, carabiners and eyelets. Cord to anchor to secure against falling. Eyelets to fix the carabiners. And the carabiners to lock the rope.

On the bottom is a rubber plate. I just gave it a little touch up, from hot glue to silicon, as it come off at a few spots. The last polish was to knot the cord.
