Oat Blueberry Protein Smoothie
Hello foodies! This is my first post here so go easy on me! π I am very inexperienced with food. In fact, I am awful. But recently I've started going to the gym and preparing healthyish smoothies. So I figured I document them so maybe it would inspire some of you to try em out.
(You will have to forgive my carelessness but I forgot to put the egg in the cover photo. I will henceforth be whipped for my transgression. Just no, there is an egg in the recipe. Thank you.)
I drink a protein smoothie every morning after my morning workout. I tend to mix and match and switch it up from time to time. So expect different recipes as well. That is, if I am accepted by the foodies. π
So let's start with the first thing I put in the blender. This should come as no shocker to those that have made smoothies before.
That's right it's the water! I put two cups of water in my smoothies. One before I put the ingredients in, and one upon conclusion. I used to put a dab of milk, but I have since found out that milk is not really helpful if you are trying to get lean. And honestly, I don't even notice its loss. You on the other hand could be a badass and put as much milk as your heart desires. π
Now for the seeds. I always grab different varieties depending on my mood. This time around we got some raw cashew nuts, peanuts, and almonds. I put in about a handful. You will notice I don't take precise measurements here. Just put in what the heart tells you and you should be good.
This is just a collection of seeds. Not sure what to call them, honestly. π But maybe the more astute foodies would know in the comments. Regardless, a handful of these as well.
Now some chia seeds. However, the chia has been left overnight to swell up. Just put three teaspoons of chia in a half-full glass of water. And let it swell up overnight. The chia will be much more active in the body this way, and you will absorb more of its healthy qualities. At least, that's what the internet told me. And we all know the internet is never wrong!
Naturally, we got them oats bruh. I buy these grounded oats now. Used to get larger-sized oats but they made the smoothie a bit mushy than my liking. I don't have to explain why oats are great for foodies, do I? I didn't think so. I also put as much as I feel on the given day. No precise measurements here.
Now for the actual food. I know! Exciting times. I put one carrot nicely diced and washed. Or washed and diced, whichever you prefer. Nothing more to say here, we all know why carrots are the bomb. Moving on. // hey! that rhymed.
One banana of course. You have to use bananas in these types of smoothies, as bananas act as the glue agent. Without it, all the parts of the smoothie won't really gel together as needed. So if I don't have a banana, I probably don't even make a smoothie that day. Yeah, one banana is very important.
The infamous raw egg! I am very saddened by its loss in the cover image, but we make due. The raw egg is a new addition to my morning smoothies. It's super healthy and you barely feel it! I know that most people have bad experiences with raw eggs, since, you know - they're disgusting. But you don't even notice it when combined with all these other ingredients. Try it!
Some frozen blueberries of course! Now, I know. This is just so there's some sugaryish taste to it. You can skip the berries if you wanna go ham on the healthy aspect. Since I'm not sure how healthy frozen fruit actually is. But I put a handful of the frozen fruit I got lying around. This day it was blueberries.
And finally the star of the show which you could easily ignore entirely. π Protein powder. This one I'm using here is cookie-flavored whey protein. I just got it, and honestly, it's the least favored-tasting protein I've drank. But we manage. I put a little less than the dose. Since the doser is 30g. And if you exceed 40g of protein per intake, you will convert said protein into sugar. And we are adding a raw egg to this recipe, so best not to risk it.
Put it all together, and remember to add another glass of water at the end. And behold! We blend!
A made smoothie. I know, it's like magic. Here's a photo of my handsome face drinking said smoothie. I ain't selling no snake oil here!
I want to emphasize that you can easily drink this without the protein powder and it will be even more delicious. In fact, some mornings I just make the smoothie for my mom and then put the protein powder afterward for myself. It's seriously like a fully-fledged breakfast. What with the raw egg and banana and seeds. It's pretty filling.
The whole thing takes about 4 glasses. So if you are full from 1 glass like my mom, this is great as a healthy family breakfast. I drink all 4 glasses as I am still a growing boy, but you can be more tempered if you so wish I guess.
I hope you all liked my recipe! And if not feel free to tell me why. I am new to all this and want to learn. Any suggestions on what I should try are wholeheartedly welcomed. π
