Water, music, lights, food, beer. An evening in Yerevan Armenia. September 22

After a long day tramping the streets and backroads of Yerevan, the pedometer thingy said, I had covered a distance of just over 17 miles, if these things can be trusted to be accurate of course. Who knows.

So, this evening is just a gentle stroll to soak up the city as the sun falls beyond the horizon. I actually know where I am going and what I am going to do!

If a picture paints a thousand words,

_DSC5719.jpeg

Then what can the lined face of this old lady tell us? The hardships of communism, when everyone was equal. but some were more equal than others? Persecution and paranoia under Uncle Joe, who himself was a Georgian. Still eking out a meagre living from selling bits and pieces on a street corner.

Jesus no! not there, a fate worse than death watching individuals dress up and pretend to be someone else, is not for me. The Moscow Cinema, built in 1936 is home to various auditorium for film, theatre, ballet, musicalzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

But it is on a nice square, the Charles Aznavour Square, apparently he is not French he is half Armenian. He died in the bath aged 94years.

A good place to sit and tarry for awhile.

Singing Fountains

From May to September, every night twixt 8 and 10pm, anyone in the vicinity of Republic Square are delightfully entertained for free, with a pretty impressive lights, water and music (I couldn't hear it) show.

The singing fountains, as they are known, were the first to be built in the former USSR, and have been in operation since the mid 60's. With the breakup of the USSR the fountains fell into a redundant state, until they were renovated and updated in 2007.

I left before the end, I had seen and enjoyed the evening, The locals and probably a horde of tourists continued to soak it up. it had been a long, a very long day. I also needed more beer.

These shots were, taken on the Nikon Z6(2). It is recommended as being good for its low light capabilities. I am more than satisfied with its performance. What do you think snappers?

Musical fountains grand display for all to enjoy, great night captures with lighting here.

Weathered face of an old woman tells a story of hard life, survival trying to carry on, portrait tells a story at a glance.

Down to the detail in beer and food, great choice both beers looked interested the food delicious, have an awesome day!

Great photos @grindle I really like the atmosphere you captured it beautifully. Thanks for including the history of the singing fountains, that was cool to learn, I had never heard of them before. Wouldn't mind seeing this one day, I like the fact that the people sit and put their feet in the water, it's such a welcoming vibe.

That lady definitely has stories to tell. I wonder if she would want them penned though?

That Nikon does very well in low lighting. I just looked up the specs, seems like a good product. Doubt my camera could capture this half as well, unless I used my wide angle as it's the fastest lens I have.

cheers @emma-h , great to get some positive feed back, glad you enjoyed my little walk. I have always used Nikon , this was an upgrade from the 650, the guy in the shop told me mirrorless was the way forward, I was dubious at first, but tbh, he got it right

I think you made a good choice. Back in the day when I originally bought my camera I was a hard-ass Canon person, but Nikon has outstripped them in many ways since... my next camera may very well be a Nikon.

Very keen to see what you capture going forward. Will it help with your Urbex to have a camera that handles low light well?

Hi, yes have used it when I am climbing through window, I really don't like using flash so it handles the lighting really well. Unless it is pitch black of course!

I always thought canon were over rated tbh, so never considered them. Sony seem to be doing some nice mirrorless stuff at the moment. But Nikon rules Ok

That alone makes it totally worthwhile.

Canon has rode the label for a long time, but their products are pretty par for the course these days, it's been a long time since they've brought out anything that has been really cutting edge. I can't really complain about mine, it's served me well for the money that I paid for it and picking up second hand equipment at good price points is easier when it's a popular brand. Having said that, a friend of mine had a Nikon that cost around the same as my camera and it took much better photos. That swayed me quite a bit and having seen yours, I am very impressed with it.

Thanks @emma-h , it does take a lot of the work out of snapping, though tbh I have seen phone camera snaps on here that are pretty decent too
