The power of water.

bishkek day (2).jpg

Well not really a gorge more a stroll down country lanes bordered by snow capped peaks to a lake, (lake Issyk), that was formed thousands of years ago, as a result of an earthquake forming a natural dam in the gorge.

_DSC4439.jpeg

The colour of the lake really was this vivid, blueish, greenish, turquoiseish, oh FFS form and use your own adjective to suit.

_DSC4446.jpeg

The shore of which was populated by students on a field trip, the volleyball was ok, but why oh fucking why did they need a massive boom box blarting out some shite thump thump thump music. I took myself off before I lost the plot.

_DSC4448.jpeg

I knew not where this would lead nor what I would find, but it was nice and quiet, peaceful.

_DSC4449.jpeg

In July 1963 following another earthquake, the natural dam burst and there was a massive mudslide that claimed over 100 lives and devestated the area

_DSC4450.jpeg

A project to rebuild the natural dam began but it wasn't until the mid 1980's that the lake basin was once again being filled, but it never will be more than 3/4 the size and depth of the original site.

Medvejiy Falls

Another area of the gorge, this time tramping through the undergrowth and rocky paths to get to a not a very big waterfall at just over 90ft. .

_DSC4477.jpeg

I can't be doing with strolling and chatting so leaving my companions behind in my dust trail, to talk amongst themselves, I put the crocs into super grip all wheel drive mode and off I jolly well went

_DSC4485.jpeg

_DSC4475.jpeg

There is a legend and it goes like this.......

_DSC4461.jpeg

Once upon a time, an old old couple lived in the gorge, a life of hard work and toil, as well as raising their children to be good people, they now just had each other for company.

_DSC4467.jpeg

One day the old man, went to the forest to collect wood for the fire, not returning home his wife in her worry went in search of him.

_DSC4462.jpeg

Eventually she met a young man on horse back and asked if he had seen her husband.

The young man laughed and asked her if she did not recognise him, her husband

_DSC4465.jpeg

He took her to the stream where she sipped the water and turned into a beautiful young woman.

_DSC4486.jpeg

_DSC4480.jpeg

Fuck all wheel drive mode, the crocs went into sport mode and down I raced

_DSC4488.jpeg

Drinking copiously from the cold flowing water til I was fit to burst.

_DSC4489.jpeg

It did not work, I am still old, all that happened was that I needed go pee pee very urgently!!!!!

I've never been lucky

I can never understand why people are so inconsiderate and need to belt out loud music when they go to nature areas

I loved all the photos, especially the ones of the mountains....
All of them! I love the falling water captured in low speed, it looks so cool.
And you, man, you get so full of life visiting all those places and the water knows that.
A delight to travel and learn with you.
