Luisenfriedhof II, a graveyard in Charlottenberg, Berlin April 22

avatar

Charlottenberg is a borough of inner city Berlin, since 1945 to the end of partition was in the British sector of control. It is also home to one of the oldest cemeteries in Berlin.

Luisenfriedhof, shall we say, opened its doors and soil to new visitors in the mid 1860's

Charlottenberg at the end of the 19th century was a very affluent area, once called "The richest town in Prussia". During the Cold Was it was the centre of West Berlin. It began to fade after reunification and the rise of the now more popular Mitte area.

A quiet green oasis surrounded by big buildings and busy highways; Let's take a stroll.

Father and mother saw old bones, their daughter Hertha died aged 14yrs

The great and the good are buried here so it seems, though the letters are fading, the Boeckh family have several wiki pages detailing their lives.

Wilhem Hoeck, in 1892 opened and ran what is now considered to be the oldest pub in Charlottenberg.

Now in its 3rd generation still owned and run by the same family

Simple poignant and hopefully erected with love, i wonder what life Frau Ziehmer led.

Seasons Greetings to one and all, live your lives to the full, live by your own rules. This is not a rehearsal, you are a long time dead.
Go to your own grave regretting the things you have foolishly done rather than rueing the chances you have missed.

It is with a cemetery, but it has a beautiful atmosphere. The photos, quality and coloring are very beautiful.

Idyllic walk down through cemetery almost forgotten over time, yet gorgeous displays in statues and carving still grace this place with reminder of those who went before.

Pub still in the family, kept with pride acknowledging their ancestry, something to be proud of.

I love cemeteries, I walk through the ones here from time to time. This one is such a peaceful setting, those trees framing the walkway.

The niches are a way that Arlington Cemetery buries some people, and the family plots always take my breath away.

I want to be buried with my entire family.

It is always interesting to see how people used to take pains to bury their relatives just the way they would have wanted.

Got that spot on, @dswigle , isn't it strange how some of us are drawn to these places, my kids think I am weird!!!

I guess I just like to lose myself in the lives and deaths of others. Without appearing morbid, I hope you realise your wishes, though once the clock stops none of us will ever know what has happened. I have asked for the cheapest cardboard box, cremation and my ashes fired up into the firmament in a firework rocket!
