Frau Elsbeth and Disco Dave. Kottmarsdorf. April 22

Situated on a long straight road, caught a glimpse as I was driving by, alas nowhere to stop and a few cars behind me, I drove on.

Fuck it! I have to go back and check. Eventually a place to turn around

Back I went, drove straight past it, fuck sake concentrate.

Yup, that's right, took me ages to be able to turn around.....AGAIN.... but turn around I did.

Executive decision made, fuck the traffic, I am stopping right outside.

_DSC1824.jpeg

Now what do I do? Can't really park up on a busy main road. best thing to do? Yup, park on the over grown drive and to hell with it.

_DSC1823.jpeg

Just got to find a way in!

C'mon
Lets mooch

I often get asked, "How do you know the place is abandoned?"

Well I think in this instance a flooded cellar is a bit of a give away

Now then , this is my kind of room, lots of treasure promised, just got to dig around a bit and hope you don't slice your finger open or get a stick injury as you root around.

Did existence come to a shuddering stop in April?

_DSC1798.jpeg

Guess no one will be choking the chicken to "hip hop honeys", no more.

Is this our chicken choker? Expo-Disco, very 1970's

_DSC1786.jpeg

Wonder who was awarded this certificate for "Safe guarding the work force"?

_DSC1817.jpeg

Or this award for being a "health ambassador"

Post cards, yes in this modern era of snapagram and what other artificial intelligence is destroying society, ( and don't get me started on the 'social media influencers". GET A PROPER FUCKING JOB YOU WANKERS )
I send postcards, there is something special, something personal, something real about sending and receiving postcards from foreign climes.

I digress.

Frau Elizabeth, made the age of 60 in 2011, I wonder to whom the schoolbooks from 1975 belong.

_DSC1802.jpeg

I have got socks like that! warm in the winter when I have got my wellies on.

_DSC1807.jpeg

Stairs!! Lovely, we must climb them.
It is non-negotiable, if there are stairs, you climb them.

How fucking lazy is that?

Fuck all else to see up here to be honest, so let's depart this lovely capsule.

It is now pissing down with rain, so glad I parked on the drive.

Gosh. So much... Life, frozen. Eery and poignant.

GET A PROPER FUCKING JOB YOU WANKERS

Haha. I have over 5000 followers on Insta you know. Once I got a 25 percent discount on a 12v fridge.

You know, I'm going to send a postcard tomorrow, if someone will give me their address...

Not really long ago this was in use, incredible how quickly places transform from livable to looking totally aged and run down.

Water coming up through the basement, hope there was no wine cellar down there!

Germans love !WINE and !BEER

Such a cool find… and how annoying you had to drive a bit to get there eventually hahaha did that a few times too. Driving until you can safely turn around.
So much in there downstairs. So cool to see. Upstairs is a mess.
Yep I also send postcards… they are just cool 😎😊
Thanks for sharing this find @grindle luckily you had parked outside.
Have a great weekend.

I always find it incredible when it looks like somebody walks out of their life, evaporating. Food is still around, and laundry is hung. Life was still living. Doesn't that feel eerie to you anymore?

It really was quite incredible that there was still so much intact, it must not be on the hit list. I am pretty intrigued about how you would even know to stop at this. I don't think I have ever seen a flooded basement like that!

I still send postcards! I love getting them and the people I send them to like them. I usually send one to a person who least expects it. It is always fun to hear how much they like being thought of. (and not in that quick word on social media) Sometimes a little effort means a lot.

Finding a time capsule like this always makes the heart beat faster, it is always a pleasure to walk in someone’s life, it is such a shame that people just disappear/die, and no one seems to care. Good to see you use and enjoy postcards!

How do I know to stop at places like this? That is difficult to explain, I guess after doing it for a long time you get a “sixth sense” a “feeling” for a place. Give away clues about the look of a place, and “the smell” the scent of stale air that often permeates the walls sounds strange yes, but they do actually give off an odour !

The smell! I actually know (or think I know) of the vacant smell, something that smells like abandonment. Between musky and empty. I have been in houses that have been long abandoned and 20 years or so and even in the summer, they feel cold and damp, which picks up a smell, mixed with leftovers of life within...

But, what you are talking about is probably in a class of its own. Thanks so much!
