Fliegerhorst Schönwalde Glien. April 22. Part 2
The nerve centre of the airfield, snapped from the barracks side. threw up some wonderful treasures.
Taken sometime before Soviet occupation.
From the airstrip, which is now long overgrown,
What a strange find, PRAVDA, Saturday 11th June 1977, my former wife's 21st birthday.
Something about: socialism, in our country leads to fulfillment of desires and hope.
Something about: further expansion and co-operation between our countries and peoples
What is left of what would have been a stunning mural
An information board which seems to give bulleted instructions with pictures on how to protect troops and what to do in the event of attack, words picked out include "biological" "radiation" and "WMD"
BLOCK DIAGRAM OF INTERFERENCE EQUIPMENT
An instruction board detailing Main Regulations No.30, the information seems to be all about how long certain categories of equipment should take to put on in the event of attack ( masks, radiation suits, chemical suits). and to which category of personnel it is applicable to. I just love finding shit like this.
Further instructions about limited weapons and ,I think how to deal with dangerous substances, clearing up and disposal. Sometimes I really wish I was dishonest and a day tripper, I would so love to have these signs hanging in my study, no one would miss them, no one owns them, what harm would it do to just stuff them in the boot of my car? Alas, my morale compass is always pointing north.
See that big chimney in the distance.
This one, its coming to you soon.
Because having been here 3 hours or so, walking and walking and walking I was thinking, yup I am knackered, I have had a busy day even before I got here, haven't eaten since breakfast. belly rumbling. It was time to call it a day.
Walking along the concrete apron the control building just visible in the distance
Passing collapsing hangars, bereft of life but full of memories. I made it back to the car in good time, looking forward to returning tomorrow. This is what urbex is all about, the adrenaline rush of living in the past.
Ok enough melodrama for now, time to put the kettle on and settle down for a nice cup of tea and a few jammy dodgers as I write up the next instalment.

Exciting pieces of history to try connect what transpired, finding murals in good condition something always pleasing to the eye, telling the story of time, place and culture.
Learning from places East/West gives more than one realizes, good to understand more or try to with no one every being completely right. Excellent photography and visit,

Murals placed during USSR times tell story of people, race, culture during that period of time such a pity they vandalized so often.
Awesome visit and photography, yup the crematorium calls out, reminder none stay longer than the clock ticks.
