For now, you are Four...

It's day 4 of April's #hiveblopomo, and I'm pleased to announce I'm 4 for 4! feelsgoodman.mp3

When I started writing, I was a poet, funneling all of my teenage angst into rhyming stanzas. I've been reading some of them lately, and I can see now how I worked out a lot of my feelings by writing poetry. Getting lines down is therapeutic. I went on to do the same in my fiction writing, but something has been nagging me to write some poems again lately.

I saw that the Blockchain Poet's prompt for this week was 'Carefree" so I'm going to take a whack at it! This prompt makes me think of my daughter, so this one's for her. 😊

I want to preserve every inch of this time
Every second that you dance to your own songs
Afraid of the dark, but not talking to strangers
You live your life, carefree

You hate photos when I want them
yet steal my phone and take your own
Your expression doesn't belong to me
Crayons on the page don't go inside lines
You taught me that, carefree

On Halloween you don't want to wear your costume
You say the hood itches and unicorns aren't real
Who told you that?
I just want you to stay with me
Where elves lives in our garden, and the sun chases the moon
Please don't be in a rush to be...
Grown up

My darling, you say things you shouldn't at times
both shockingly good and frighteningly bad
You almost made a lady fight me at the supermarket
and then we both laughed about it, carefree

You are the chaos that makes my life sublime
the girl who asks me, repeatedly, for a 3-legged dog
Because you think you'd be great at loving one
The one who hugs a homeless man, he looks at me in worry
But I don't care. They share a hug
He called her a golden angel, and when we walked away, she said
Do you think he could live with us?
Carefree.

This photo is my own, taken on that memorable Halloween night. Thea turns 5 in a few days, and I'm a bit of a mess about it. This poem helped me write some of that out. Thanks for the prompt BC Poets! 💕

Absolutely lovely. Soft and sublime. Great rhythm. How inspired you were to guide yourself based on how your daughter approaches this world.

You say the hood itches and unicorns aren't real

The second part of this sentence grabbed my attention in particular as it's quite unusual for a little girl to question the existence of unicorns. That again shows how awaken and in tune she is with the universe.
Beautiful poem @grindan

Thank you so much! My daughter really is incredibly self-aware, and following her lead seems to be the right way to parent her oftentimes. It can be hard though, when her level of knowledge eclipses magic... I'm proud, but I'm also sad.

Parenthood is a wild ride 🤣! Thank you for the lovely comment, and for sharing my poem! 🤗

So beautiful. They do grow up so damn fast, but their hearts are always so full of pure good even when they say things that reach deep down inside and hurt. Keep writing bud, you're awesome 🦋

What a beautiful poem! 😍 I think childhood are the best years of our lives, if they are stress and pain free. Wanting to preserve every moment of childhood is every parent's wish that never comes true —children must grow up! See what I mean about time? 😉 Happy birthday to your little one. !LUV 💕

Hahaha I thought about that too as I read your poem, it felt like an ironic sign from the universe after posting this! 🤣 !LOLZ I know she has to grow up, but maybe I could just get one more year of four... I mean, I've been GOOD. Surely I can talk to someone about the mistake that has been made with the pace of time! hehe Thanks for the fabulous comment Kemmy! 🤗

That's a beautiful poem about a child who is loved, seen, and allowed to be herself. I'm sure the unicorn problem is just temporary - she'll figure out that like anything wonderful they are as real as we make them. <3

Getting lines down is therapeutic.

You're totally right when you say this. Putting our feeling into writing is very therapeutic.

Great job, @grindan!

In PYPT today, @thekittygirl pimped your post.

She recited an excerpt of your poem, the bit including, "On Halloween...Grown up."

We were moved by your work and wowed by your craft!

Congrats on your 4 of 4 on your #HiveBloPoMo. Proud for you!! 💖

@grindan...

It's Wes-ship... passing by. Get it? Two ships, passing in the night? 😁

That's the nature of things, after all. We meet folks that we connect with. They make positive impacts on us... then as we continue our journey... well, we sometimes run back into each other. From your first step here on the blockchain. You stepped in one of those puddles... Do you know that saying? Starts as a ripple... then a wave? You know what I mean... From your post:

"When I started writing, I was a poet, funneling all of my teenage angst into rhyming stanzas. I've been reading some of them lately, and I can see now how I worked out a lot of my feelings by writing poetry. Getting lines down is therapeutic. I went on to do the same in my fiction writing, but something has been nagging me to write some poems again lately."

Follow that voice in your head then! (Not that one lol)... Write poems... Kind of like; when I am craving a certain food. I feel that's my body telling me I am in need of whatever it is I am craving. I think that holds true for our "inner us" as well. You know you have so many people that are quite glad you decided to hop on this blockchain with us. I say... "Do You". And that photo with you and your daughter? Oh my goodness... those are the creation of memories, dear soul.

Sending you all the love... all the positive energy... you know.

Wes...

As always, your comment leaves me smiling, feeling virtually hugged, and with pockets full of encouragement! You're the freaking man Wes! !LUV 💚

Your thoughts on the cravings of the heart are very wise, and leave me with many thoughts on the creative process. It's really nice to have friends who see the little things we say between the lines and respond to them. Thank you very much for that, and for being the king of thoughtfulness! !PIZZA !PIMP Song was awesome too, never heard it actually! 🤘😁🤗💞

Just another free service I provide daily lol. Oh... not heard of Amplifier aye? I found them on accident; it was around 2006... I was listening to another favorite band by the name of Oceansize. Have you heard them? If not...

Always about the music with me... and the comments take me forever to write, because I pause to listen lol... MS brain... you know Sadly, this band is no longer together. But one of the guitarist, Steve Durose, joined up with Amplifier for several albums...

Oh yes! I was talking about Amplifier lol. I found them while jamming Oceansize. The original guitars Sel Balamir, is quite an awesome fellow... I chat with him on and off. I'm just glad the music was to your liking. Here's their Bandcamp below. I better finish this reply lol...

How your girl thinks and acts is absolutely amazing. She's got a beautiful soul, not even afraid to hug a stranger, more so a homeless one which even some adults tend to avoid.

It looks like you are having challenges with blopomo and I look forward to your next post so I can upvote it!

Also, Congrats on winning the #HPUD delegation from the contest hosted by our friend @traciyork. I am a little late to delegating but will leave it in place at least 30 days, and will try and curate your posts at least a month.

Here's to a growing stack of Hive and slightly higher upvotes to make your curation that much rewardier!

I know I read this; I remember the unicorns and 3-legged dog. Consistent commenting is apparently difficult for me! But I came back and want to express my admiration for your therapeutic poetic loving offering. Happy Birthday Thea! I'm sure it was a good one. :)
