Déjà Vu, or Clairvoyance?

I have a very niche superpower; I can see the mundane future. I'm sure you've already decided I've got more than a screw loose after reading that, and absolutely, but hear me out.

I was 8 years old when I knew the bus I was sitting on would crash, this paralyzing fear came over me. We twisted and turned along an Alleghany Mountain roadway, dense forest turning everything I could see emerald green. And it happened, kind of. We rounded a corner and the bus lurched, sickeningly, I thought of my Gameboy. I'd never be a Pokémon master!

I squeezed my eyes tight, knowing we ended up at the bottom of a hill, I had seen it so vividly. Like a flash of lightning, the future had revealed itself briefly. Except, instead we sputtered and broke down. Past the steel barrier on the side of the road, I peered down a hill. Below was a school bus, sleeping on its side as the foliage reclaimed the space. The bus I had seen wasn't ours.

It took me years to connect this to déjà vu.

I have the feeling that I have experienced the present moment before, or déjà vu, several times a month or more. It tends to be a vague feeling which buzzes on the edge of my consciousness, yet other times it hits me like an ice-cold wave! It has evolved a lot since I was 8.

I had asked and verified across dozens of conversations that people often have this odd sensation. It seemed more or less to be one of those bizarre things which we just cannot explain... Or so I thought. As time went on, I began to find a connection between déjà vu and my dreams.

It started in my mid-twenties. I had decided to sell all my stuff and leave my hometown. For about a year, I lived in a protest camp. Afterwards I just flowed freely for a while. I didn't have any particular plan about where I would go, or what I would do, I just simply was.

I worked on farms, I did hard labor, I took whatever jobs were safe and available when I needed funds. Most nights I slept in the wilderness, I cooked my meals over an open flame... I began to feel very aligned with a sense of purpose. My dreams became frighteningly vivid, I'm sure as part of my mind's readjustment to such a change in lifestyle.

And then one day I had déjà vu, and I remember thinking, "Didn't I dream about this last night?"

Okay, let me back up one step here. I also experience synesthesia. What in the ham sandwich is that? Well, I taste music and smell colors... among other delightful and horrifying things. By dictionary definition, synesthesia is:

The production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body.
Basically, people have this in ALL sorts of ways. I'm lucky enough to have met one other person with this neurological filter on constantly. She told me that the color yellow tickles her feet, and that looking at turtles tasted like seaweed.

How does this tie into the first half? Well, déjà vu is a kaleidoscope of an experience for me. Synesthesia is the reason for this, and it's also how I figured out that I was dreaming about things before they happened. Now, remember what I said intially, right? I can see the mundane future; I am not aware of a single time this has helped me with anything... ever.

I will be at a restaurant, for example, and I will see a woman in a green sweater enter the dining area, she will look to the left, and I know already that someone will cough on my right, and they do. The feeling of having experienced it before happens as soon as I see the woman, the feeling from my dream will come on at the cough. In this memory, the lights were greasy for a moment.

Surely something cool has happened with these traits though?! Yeah, I can hear people asking now. I think in all honesty the fact they exist is the interesting part, I believe that it is a sign of a deeper human connection below the surface. I've heard other people connect their dreams to foresight, and even on a few occasions directly to the feeling of déjà vu itself. I'm not sure that we all aren't having this experience on a subconscious level if nothing else!

Anyhow, I have one special story, I don't know if it will seem like much after all that, but here goes.

us.jpg

This is a photo of my husband Steve and I, which was taken last fall. He is very literally the man from my dreams. When we first started dating, I got déjà vu constantly!

The first time I woke up next to him, it distinctly was not the first time in my mind. I always felt as if I had been with him before, the way his lips press against mine was familiar from our first kiss. Yet, it was not like other times that I had recalled the present moment, it was wildly disorienting. As if I was recalling things from a past life, not from some connection to the ether.

Sometimes I would feel like I experienced an entire day full of things that had passed already, the closer I got to him, the more intense it got. And, eventually I gave up. You see, I had been trying to fight falling in love. I didn't want to. When my resistance crumbled, so did the mysterious barrier.

It was then that I remembered Steve from dreams, the crazy part is, like REALLY old dreams. Have you ever had something spark your memory of a dream? It's a weird freaking feeling. Well, I began to remember dreams from many years ago, and Steve was in them. I knew then that he was my "one".

What does all of this mean? Who knows. Honestly, I don't even really want to know. It's eccentric and wonky, and it makes my life fun. That's good enough for me. The day that I walked down the aisle to marry my husband, I had déjà vu as my huge dress swept over my feet, and I knew I was walking in the right direction!

The first book I wrote was about a woman who saw “future ghosts”. The idea for the story was based on trying to capture my sense of premonition. I’m so freaking (frigging) glad that there’s someone else out there as “wonky” (great word BTW) as me. The thing is, there’s never any warning when the “feeling” will spear me…therefore, as you say, it’s pretty useless. 💕❤️🤗💕❤️🤗, but fun anyway (other than those debilitating times when you “see” future ghosts. ) Now I need a very LARGE glass of wine 🍷 Hehe!

Oh gosh, YES!! 🤗💚 My intuition is sometimes the reason I cannot understand anything at all 🤣! I'm also relieved and happy to know I'm not alone in this... and how perfect that it is you who knows 😉💞👯‍♂☕️😘🤗

I hope someday we can have a coffee in person, I think our conversation would leave the planet. 😍 Amazing book idea, I immediately want to read it, where do I find it?! AHHHHH you're amazing. ❤️

I agree. When your natural gifts are not showing up, I think it means you need to look at what is not working in your life because 'something' is off.

HUGS!

I'm not one of those people who have premonitions. But a few times, I've had the feeling of Deja Vu. But what happens to you is curious.

I loved the anecdote about your marriage. And how at that moment, you felt with certainty you were in the right direction. Cheers to that! :)

I giggled a bit, because isn't it SO cool how we all have our own unique filter that we see life through? I'm sure you have your own curious thing, and maybe didn't even realize that other people don't have that at first? I was shocked when I realized that everyone didn't experience life like me! 😂

Sometimes being human is just pure magic 😍! Thank you very much for this awesome comment 😁 cheers! 💚

I believe that very intuitive people can sense, or even know what other people are thinking, sometimes. Not like mind reading, but thought sensing.

As for déjà vu: Now that we know time is not linear and there may be parallel universes, déjà vu is less far fetched than it used to be.

The great part about this blog though, is that you have found your 'soul mate', and he found you :)

It is always a pleasure to hear your thoughts! 😁 Are you familiar with the oversoul theory?

I enjoy this quote by Emerson on the subject. I find it fun to play around with the idea of an oversoul when I mull over things like intuition or déjà vu. Sometimes I wonder if we all can sense what other people are thinking or feeling on some level, and most of us are just unaware of it?

Hmmm I have an inkling that we could have quite the lively conversation on these topics! Hehe, thank you for your wonderful comment. 🤗

I'm not familiar with the term oversoul, but I am familiar the what I believe are related concepts: the unity of all things, and even Jungian ideas about collective subconscious.

The view that we are atomistic, individual, bounded by our perceived physical limits--that I think is not sustainable.

I am very much a 'science person', but there is nothing in science which negates the concept of oneness. It's just that, the concept cannot be proven, so therefor has little value for most people beyond speculation.

I have my beliefs and experiences, which I can prove (demonstrate) to no one, therefore I ask no one to accept them, anymore than I ask anyone to accept this religion or that religion.

However, there is no question in my own, subjective view, that we intuit each other to one degree or another. This I believe from experience--not dreams even, but actual waking experience. Can't prove it. But I do believe it.

Yes, this would be a lively discussion and one that would go nowhere, because if we agree with each other we will continue to agree, and if we disagree there is no way to disprove either view. What would be the point?😁

Hope you are having a wonderful day with your beautiful family.

Oh my... this is sweet 🤗😄 pace of the reading was great and I did not expect this. Finding someone is really hard and trust for marriage is harder but as I see you made the right decision by the looks of it 🤗 hopefully you can keep experiencing more happy dejavuus in the future 😄🤗🙏

Your house is empty.......

Why yes, it is :D

and then we went on and talked like such a weird question to anyone else wasn't questioned. LOLL

I think we all have unique gifts. I think many people are afraid of their gifts and have spent their lifetime never embracing what makes us whole. This makes me sad but I also understand cuz it can get scary too if you let it.

Love YOU!!

HUGE HUGS!

have spent their lifetime never embracing what makes us whole

This is SO well said!! Self-exploration and acceptance aren't always fun or comfortable, but when you've done it, life becomes so much happier. It's a bummer that so many of us think that what makes us who we are is something we have to hide away from the world.

You are incredible and I love YOU! 😁💕

Synesthesia.......! A new term for me, but not certainly a new experience. I have found voices triggering taste..... It is perhaps due to some conditioning at the unconscious level.

I often have the feeling like the thing I am experiencing has already happened. And just like the way you described, as soon as the first stimulus comes to the sight, the next events become predictable.

Many of us go through such experiences, but perhaps no one can explain the reason precisely

Thank you for sharing that with me, what a great comment! 😍

It's really cool to hear that you have very similar experiences! I wonder how many others do as well, but just keep it to themselves? I'm also willing to bet a lot more than we'd think!

You're wicked awesome 😁🤗 !LUV !PIZZA

You might be interested in reading Dr. Rupert Sheldrake’s book Science Set Free. I did a book study with it a couple years ago with some university students.

Regarding the experiences you’ve mentioned, he comments about how the vast majority of people have experienced something similar at least once in their lives, yet for sone reason “science” refuses to take them seriously or to rigorously study them.

One of Sheldrake’s assertions is that memories are not stored as traces in the brain but are stored outside our bodies, in an electromagnetic-type field he calls the “morphic field”.

That is absolutely fascinating! I can immediately think of several day-to-day examples that would support the "morphic field" assertion... what a fun thread to pull. 😁

I try to get to the library with my children at least once a week, so I will be sure to look for his book. It sounds like a must-read for someone with my interests!

It feels reassuring to know that these topics have academic relevance, even if mainstream science has dismissed them...

Although, based on declassified CIA documents, I do believe that it is likely this all has been studied further than we know. For example, the astral projection study notes are highly compelling in my opinion. I try not to be a "conspiracy theorist", bizarre stuff makes it difficult. 😂

Thank you for the reading suggestion, and for this stimulating comment!

The same book was published in the U.K. under the title The Science Delusion.

If you are able to find it and read it, feel free to tag me if you write a post about it. I’d be interested in hearing your reactions to his assertions.

This isn't weird or wonky at all. In fact it's one of the most wholesome and romantic things I've ever read. May you both have many happy years together filled with deja vu! Quite literally living the dream.
